  • Starting Salary £49,934
  • Full time Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm
  • Opportunity to achieve a £2k salary uplift over the first 12 months, based on achievement of development milestones.

As a Functional Assessor, you'll continue to utilise your clinical expertise, maintain your registration, and enjoy a better work-life balance. If you have a minimum of 12 months' post-registration experience and have been practising as a clinician throughout the last year, we'd love to hear from you. If you are a pharmacist, we welcome your application if you have a minimum of 18 months experience.

Flexibility and remote working:

We offer a number of flexible working arrangements that suit those who prefer to work in an Assessment Centre full time or in a hybrid role.   

Working hours throughout your training are 9.00am -5.00pm Monday to Friday. 

Once training has been completed (typically around six months), other working patterns are available.

What you’ll be doing as a Functional Assessor:

  • Carrying out functional assessments with claimants’ face to face, via video & telephone to assess their ability to undertake activities of daily living. 
  • Asking focused questions and use active listening and critical reasoning skills to gather accurate information throughout the claimant Assessment.
  • Produce high quality, structured clinical reports on all claimants you assess, for submission to the DWP. 
  • Working alongside other highly experienced clinical colleagues to ensure high-quality & clinically fair assessments for all claimants.

Whilst you will not be making decisions or recommendations as to the services and benefits for claimants, you will be using your clinical experience to ask the right questions to fully understand the claimants needs and living environment, gathering accurate information for the DWP to make those decisions.

This role would suit someone who:

  • Is open to a formalised programme of training to become a DWP approved Functional Assessor.
  • Is receptive to ongoing constructive feedback, ensuring our claimants continually get the very best experience. 
  • Has confidence in their ability to use computers and in learning different software packages to complete detailed, high-quality reports for all claimants assessed. 

This role may not be the best match for you if:   

  • You are not comfortable using or are unfamiliar with technology. 
  • You dislike writing detailed reports. 
  • You prefer a more hands on approach to clinical care. 
  • You’re not looking for a new direction nor a period of retraining into a new role. 
  • You don’t enjoy working in an environment with targets. 
  • You are not looking for a role that requires you to work on site for some or all of your working week.3 days a week.

Qualifications

Who We’re Looking For 

  • NMC-registered Adult Nurses (RGN, RMN, RNLD) or HCPC-registered Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Paramedics or GPHC-registered Pharmacists. 

With excellent communication & critical-thinking skills, the ability to type and confidence using computers

Skills Required

  • Current NMC registration (Adult Nurse: RGN, RMN, RNLD) or HCPC registration (Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Paramedic) or GPHC registration (Pharmacist)
  • Minimum 12 months post-registration clinical experience (minimum 18 months for pharmacists) and practising as a clinician within the last year
  • Ability to maintain professional registration and undertake paid, structured training to achieve DWP accreditation
  • Excellent communication, critical-thinking and report-writing skills
  • Confidence using computers, ability to type and learn different software packages to complete detailed reports
  • Willingness to work on site some or all of the working week (hybrid/fixed assessment centre attendance) and to work within targets and structured processes
