About the Role

We are seeking a Fullstack Developer (Python) to join our Data team. This is a software development role, not a data engineering role. The candidate will be focusing on building high quality and performant features for our product. They will be playing a key role in the team’s technical work and ensure the work is well-sequenced, maintainable, and aligned with broader product goals. They will bring a critical-thinking and solution-oriented mindset to everything they do, with a strong focus on continuous delivery, monitoring, and delivering real-world impact in a highly collaborative environment. We are looking for someone with strong AWS knowledge to helop guide the team.

Our team is responsible for loading and preparing data so it can be reliably used by applications built by domain teams. Each data load must remain aligned with the domain teams’ code and with the way their applications read and consume the data.

What You’ll Do
  • Bring passion and curiosity to everything you will build and interact with.
  • Be obsessed about building great features that our clients will love using and apply high standards of quality and performance to every piece you'll build.
  • Design, code, test, and debug complex software with a high level of quality, sitting as full-time member of a development team.
  • Participate in and contribute to code reviews to improve your skills in the areas of component reuse, extensibility, maintainability and scalability.
  • Contribute to implementing the product-wide technical roadmap, ensuring the success of technical cross-team initiatives.
  • Plan, implement and execute automated tests that validate good quality results.
  • Monitor your applications in production and proactively identify and fix issues clients are encountering.
  • Participate in on-call and help desk rotations, incident response, and post-incident reviews to improve long-term reliability.
  • Understanding the product-wide technical roadmap, ensuring your active participation in the success of technical team initiatives.
  • Proactively raise concerns to management and to senior members of the team.
  • On occasion, participate in an on-call rotation (that respects your time) to support your team's software.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer engineering, computer science, or any related fields.
  • 2-3 years professional software engineering experience.
  • Development experience with Python and JavaScript (Vue preferred) and corresponding unit testing frameworks.
  • Strong familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), containerization (Docker), and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar).
  • Experience with SQL databases and building queries optimised for performance.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with the patience to work through ambiguous, edge-case-heavy scenarios.
  • Appetite for excellence in day-to-day tasks, from coding to writing documentation.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills (in written and spoken English) targeting both technical and non-technical audiences.

Location and Work Model

This role is based in Montreal. At AlayaCare, our hybrid model includes 2 set in-office collaboration days/week, and it is expected that team members are present in the office on those days to foster connection, innovation, and teamwork.
