Location: Singapore - Suntec, Singapore

Thales is a global technology leader trusted by governments, institutions, and enterprises to tackle their most demanding challenges. From quantum applications and artificial intelligence to cybersecurity and 6G innovation, our solutions empower critical decisions rooted in human intelligence. Operating at the forefront of aerospace and space, cybersecurity and digital identity, we’re driven by a mission to build a future we can all trust.

In Singapore, Thales has been a trusted partner since 1973, originally focused on aerospace activities in the Asia-Pacific region. With 2,000 employees across three local sites, we deliver cutting-edge solutions across aerospace (including air traffic management), defence and security, and digital identity and cybersecurity sectors. Together, we’re shaping the future by enabling customers to make pivotal decisions that safeguard communities and power progress.About the Lab

You will join a forward-looking innovation lab (International Avionics Lab), dedicated to exploring and developing next-generation aviation and digital solutions, located in Singapore and on behalf of the THALES AVS GBU. Operating at the intersection of avionics, cloud technologies and advanced software platforms, the Lab brings together multidisciplinary experts to design, prototype and demonstrate innovative operational concepts bringing improvements to air traffic management and airline/airport operations across Singapore, the Asia-Pacific region, and beyond. Our team works in an agile environment that fosters initiative, experimentation and innovative thinking, and is in constant relationship with local operational stakeholders.

Why this role matters

You build what our partners and customers see and touch, and you build it fast. You turn the Lab’s ideas into working demonstrators and MVPs in days to weeks, then make them solid enough to be handed over to a business unit. You work next to the Cloud Solutions Architect and the Aviation Systems Architect, who shape the architecture and own infrastructure and security, so you can concentrate on shipping. We will be hiring several Full Stack engineers: tell us in your application which track is your strongest (Product & Front-end, Data/Streaming & Backend, or AI).

Responsibilities
  • Turn loosely specified ideas into working demonstrators and MVPs, deciding what to leave out, and throw away what does not work
  • Build the user-facing layer: responsive web applications, data-rich dashboards, map and real-time views that convince non-technical stakeholders
  • Build APIs, services and integration layers (data transformation / adaptation) connecting multiple systems, following the architecture and API conventions set by the Cloud Solutions Architect
  • Produce and consume event streams (Kafka / MQ) for real-time demonstrations
  • Embed AI / LLM features (RAG, agents, LLM APIs) in prototypes and use AI-assisted development tools to ship faster
  • Test what you build (unit, integration, end-to-end) and apply secure-coding basics to your own features
  • Document for transfer: READMEs, short design notes and handover documents so that a prototype can move to a business unit
  • Deploy, run and maintain prototypes on the demonstration platforms (cockpit fixed demonstrator, web mobile) and keep them ready for customer presentations
  • Demonstrate your work to the team and, together with the Lab Director and the architects, to operational stakeholders

Requirements
  • At least 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
  • Relevant Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on development: Regularly write production code and build from loosely defined requirements.
  • Full-stack expertise: TypeScript/React, one backend language (Python/FastAPI, Node.js, Java, C#/.NET or Go), PostgreSQL, Docker, Git and CI/CD.
  • Front-end skills: Next.js or equivalent, responsive UI, dashboards or maps, and strong UX judgement.
  • Independent delivery: Work within established microservice and API conventions, make sound assumptions and iterate quickly.
  • Possess good communication skills and clear technical writing.
  • Working experience in Kafka or equivalent MQ experience.
  • Working experience in Unit, integration and end-to-end test automation.
  • Experience in Secure coding, OWASP Top 10 and basic threat modelling.
  • Experience delivering AI/LLM features to users.
  • Exposure to avionics, EFB, connectivity, datalink, ATC/ATM, airline operations or airline IT systems is a plus.
  • C/C++ or QML experience for cockpit or EFB HMI prototypes is a plus.

At Thales, we’re committed to fostering a workplace where respect, trust, collaboration, and passion drive everything we do. Here, you’ll feel empowered to bring your best self, thrive in a supportive culture, and love the work you do. Join us, and be part of a team reimagining technology to create solutions that truly make a difference – for a safer, greener, and more inclusive world.
