Who We Are: USCS is dedicated to advancing, innovating, and serving companies seeking "Best in Service", facilities, and logistics in the cold chain. We are an employee-focused, equal opportunity employer and would love to have you join our team.

USCS is one of the largest providers of third-party logistics solutions in North America. The Center of Digital Excellence (CoDE) is the IT division responsible for the company's digital footprint, including custom software development, enterprise integrations, customer-facing applications, data platforms, automation solutions, and infrastructure services.

The Job Details:

As a third-party logistics provider, we are entrusted with managing and safeguarding our customers' inventory throughout the supply chain. Providing customers with timely access to information and self-service capabilities is critical to delivering an exceptional customer experience.

We are seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to help design, develop, deploy, and enhance the Web Portal, a modern customer-facing platform that provides visibility into inventory, orders, reporting, and operational activities.

The portal is designed to deliver a modern user experience, leveraging natural language capabilities and contextualized content so customers can quickly find what they are looking for—or be informed of what they should know. It also forms the basis for the APIs and hooks that allow our customers' systems to integrate with ours.

In this role, you will develop web applications, APIs, integrations, and data-driven solutions that support both customers and internal business operations. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, product owners, analysts, quality assurance professionals, and fellow engineers to deliver secure, scalable, reliable, and user-friendly solutions.

The portal is built with React and Next.js for the front end and Node.js (Express) and Java (Spring Boot) for backend REST APIs, with PostgreSQL and Snowflake data platforms, authentication through NextAuth.js, JWTs, and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), and automated testing and CI/CD delivery. Our engineers use AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and Cursor as part of their everyday workflow.

Success in this role requires strong software engineering fundamentals, a customer-focused mindset, and a willingness to learn the business processes that drive supply chain, warehousing, and logistics operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Application Development - Design, develop, test, and maintain customer-facing web applications and backend services that support business-critical operations.
  • API Development - Build and maintain REST APIs that enable communication between customer applications, internal systems, and external business partners.
  • System Integration - Develop and support integration with enterprise applications, data platforms, and third-party services to ensure reliable and efficient data exchange.
  • Data Solutions - Design and optimize database queries, reporting functionality, and data-driven features that help customers and business teams make informed decisions.
  • Authentication and Security - Implement and support secure authentication, authorization, and access-control solutions using NextAuth.js, JWTs, and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) to protect customer and company data.
  • Software Quality - Write automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; participate in code reviews; and continuously improve software quality.
  • AI-Assisted Development - Use AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Cursor to accelerate design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation, while reviewing all AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability.
  • Production Support - Monitor application performance, troubleshoot issues, and resolve production incidents to support reliability and positive customer experience.
  • Collaboration - Partner with product owners, business stakeholders, analysts, quality assurance professionals, and other developers to define requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement - Stay current with modern software development practices and contribute to ongoing improvements in architecture, tooling, processes, and engineering standards.

What We Do

For more than 125 years, United States Cold Storage (USCS) has protected America’s food supply through a national network of 39 world‑class, temperature‑controlled facilities across 14 states. Today, that mission is driven as much by software as it is by steel and concrete. Behind every truck, pallet, and movement is a modern, in‑house engineering organization building the mission‑critical systems that run our warehouses. Our teams develop and operate the technology that tracks inventory in real time, optimizes labor and throughput, integrates automation and robotics, and connects seamlessly with our partners’ supply chains. We work across multiple clouds and databases, leverage modern data platforms like Snowflake, and solve complex computer science problems—from optimization to routing at scale. With more than 4,300 employees and a 200+ person IT organization operating like a modern product and engineering group, USCS offers the rare combination of stability, scale, and complex technical challenges. We do whatever it takes to help our partners profitably reach their goals—whether that’s primary cold storage or fully integrated third‑party logistics—because when the temperature matters, getting it right matters even more. Our facilities are located in: California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.

Why Work With Us

USCS is a family built on trust, teamwork, and pride. From freezer floors to engineering, everyone helps build the next generation of cold storage with practical tech that makes operations safer and smarter—because here, you don’t just keep food moving—you build how it moves next.
