Staff Frontend Engineer

We are developing a SaaS product called Skyway that simplifies financial planning and analysis of cloud billing data for large enterprises with complex cloud spending requirements. We're looking for a staff-level full-stack senior engineer to excel at product-led front-end development while keeping one foot grounded in our backend systems, the data itself, and the infra that powers everything.

We have fascinating technical challenges around data modeling and continuous quality control, but we’re also at the critical point every startup faces where we need to be able to test our product visions quickly with key design partners. We're exploring a unique market niche of enterprise-scale clients who need capabilities far beyond the offerings of standard FinOps tools; where the difference our product makes for our customers will save them millions.

• Extend the capabilities of our current python+react front end with impressive speed

• Deliver professional-grade charting and visualization products that are as beautiful as they are insightful

• Prototype brand new product pages and data delivery systems with our Product designers

• Work with confidence against our OLAP and OLTP data stores

• Dive Deep to understand our data and what our customers really want with our Product team

• Participate in the hard problem of designing and implementing comprehensive generic modeling of enterprise billing agreements

• Collaborate with the entire engineering team to investigate and resolve data quality issues

• Debate the merits of LLMs in software development while constantly improving yourself and mentoring your teammates

• 7+ years experience of true full-stack engineering, particularly focused on the frontend

• 3+ years working explicitly with React; we want someone who's not sure if they're a react expert but their peers sure think of them as one!

• Experienced at discussing the merits of various designs and UX patterns

• Comfortable working with Python. You don't need to be an expert, but we're looking for at least competency.

• 1+ years using github CI/CD or similar and deploying to the cloud

• Capable with SQL and familiar with data modeling challenges

• Experience working with data and data visualizations

• Ability to deliver results in hours instead of days

• Some experience in a startup environment, or desire+ability to work well in one

• Fastidiousness about data quality and accuracy in reporting

• Existing portfolio showing off your work

• Experience with ClickHouse or other OLAP datastores

• Experience with airflow or other data processing orchestration systems

• AWS experience

Your work will become the showpiece of the Skyway product; Duckbill’s flagship SaaS offering for the largest companies using the public cloud. You’ll also build expertise in cloud financial data—a rapidly growing and specialized field. You'll own and drive our front-end tech stack and the way we build products that directly impact customer success, working in a small team where your contributions immediately matter; even collaborating directly with customers when appropriate.

Compensation for this role is a salary range of $200,000 to $230,000 plus early stage equity options. We provide a 401(k) and healthcare, vision, and dental with premiums fully covered by the company. Dependents are covered 50%. We offer 4 weeks of PTO, plus unlimited sick leave.

We are a small and growing team of 12 people, which means you get the opportunity to be on the ground floor of building the product and company. Our founders are domain experts in the market+problem space, bringing deep industry and customer connections in cloud cost management to the product.

We're backed by Heavybit and Uncork Capital, having raised $7.75 million, along with substantial revenue.

We work together in the office in San Francisco three days per week, so you must be located in the SF Bay Area and willing to work in the office on a regular basis.
