The Workday Federal team is dedicated to delivering secure, reliable, and innovative enterprise solutions to support the unique needs of U.S. federal customers. We play an important role in extending Workday's mission by building products that help government agencies better manage and support their people and operations.
Our teams work across the full development stack — from Knowledge and Case Management products to Generative AI integrations — collaborating closely with customers, product managers, UX, and design teams to solve real challenges. About the Role

As a Software Development Engineer on the Workday Federal team, you will play a key role in shaping the user experience for our Knowledge and Case Management product. You will collaborate closely with customers, product managers, UX, and design teams to solve real user problems, contributing across the full development stack from product discussions to front-end coding with TypeScript.

Our technology includes a Kotlin microservice and Workday's proprietary XO stack. We are investing in XO and will offer dedicated training to help you develop these skills. You will also have the opportunity to build expertise in the growing field of Generative AI as we integrate it to enhance our products — building features like our article summarization tool, case summary tool, and exploring new AI applications. This role offers a supportive environment for learning and growth while building impactful features.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute your technical expertise towards building a high-quality product, working across the full development stack

  • Collaborate with team members through mentoring and welcome mentorship for your own development

  • Contribute to technical requirements, architecture, and help guide UX and design direction

  • Share knowledge within the team and the wider organization to foster a culture of continuous improvement

  • Advocate for the development process, engineering standards, quality, and a culture of ongoing learning

  • Be in the office at least 50% of the time to collaborate and build lasting relationships with your team and the wider organization

About You

Basic Qualifications:

  • ​5+ years experience with UML, Web application development or SaaS (Software as a Service) technologies

  • 5+ years of experience with design and development using an object-oriented language such as Java, Python, C# etc.

  • 3+ years experience building enterprise-level software with a focus on performance, scalability, and security

  • 3+ years experience with React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, RESTful APIs, and modern front-end frameworks (React preferred)

  • 3+ years experience in working and collaborating with teams with varied strengths in a dynamic, rapid grow with environment using Scrum successfully

Other Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and communicate across organizational boundaries

  • Experience with virtualisation and build technologies such as Docker, VMware, Webpack, Gradle and Jenkins

  • Experience with LangGraph tool chain (LangGraph, LangSmith) 

  • Experience with prompt engineering 

  • You see software development as a team sport, and thrive in a highly collaborative, agile culture where you’re always teaching and learning

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to work smoothly with both technical and non-technical audiences

Workday Pay Transparency Statement

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below.  Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants. Recruiters can share more detail during the hiring process. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need, among other things. Primary Location Base Pay Range: $130,400 USD - $195,600 USD

Additional US Location(s) Base Pay Range: $123,900 USD - $222,000 USD
