Role Overview
Johnson Controls is looking for a highly skilled Full Stack Developer – Headless Web with deep expertise in modern frontend engineering and headless architecture to deliver highly scalable, performant, and globally distributed web experiences.
This role is centered around building enterprise-grade applications using Next.js, React.js, and TypeScript, deployed on Vercel, with a strong focus on edge delivery, performance optimization, and cloud-native practices.
You will work within a headless, composable digital experience ecosystem, leveraging Sitecore AI (XM Cloud) as a content orchestration layer, while driving frontend innovation and engineering excellence. The role requires hands-on ownership of multi-site, multi-brand, and multi-lingual implementations, ensuring seamless and consistent user experiences across global markets.
The ideal candidate combines strong frontend development expertise, DevOps understanding, and performance engineering mindset, with the ability to operate in a fast-paced, enterprise-scale environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Modern Frontend Engineering
- Design and develop high-performance web applications using Next.js, React.js, and TypeScript
- Implement advanced rendering strategies including Static Site Generation (SSG), Server-Side Rendering (SSR), Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR), and Edge Rendering for optimal performance and scalability
- Build reusable, modular, and maintainable component libraries and design systems
- Ensure adherence to accessibility (WCAG), SEO best practices, and responsive design principles
- Collaborate closely with UX/UI teams to deliver pixel-perfect, user-centric digital experiences
2. Headless Architecture & Composable DX
- Implement and manage headless CMS integrations, using APIs/GraphQL for dynamic content delivery
- Design scalable composable architectures that decouple frontend from backend systems
- Support multi-site, multi-brand, and multi-lingual web platforms, ensuring consistency and governance across regions
- Work with content, marketing, and product teams to enable flexible and reusable content models
- Integrate with enterprise systems such as analytics, personalization, DAM, and marketing platforms
3. Vercel Platform Ownership & Cloud Delivery
- Own end-to-end deployment of web applications on Vercel, including project setup, configuration, and environment management
- Manage multi-environment deployments (Development, QA, UAT, Production) with robust CI/CD pipelines
- Implement and optimize edge delivery strategies, CDN configurations, and caching mechanisms for global performance
- Ensure secure and resilient deployments by implementing:
- WAF and bot protection policies
- Secure handling of environment variables, API keys, and tokens
- Integration with enterprise security frameworks
4. Performance Engineering & Optimization
- Continuously monitor and improve Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP) and other performance metrics
- Apply best practices such as code splitting, lazy loading, image optimization, and efficient data fetching
- Optimize applications for low latency and high availability across global regions
- Conduct performance audits and implement improvements to meet or exceed industry benchmarks
5. DevOps, Monitoring & Reliability
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for fast, reliable deployments
- Integrate monitoring, logging, and observability tools to track application health
- Troubleshoot production issues and ensure minimal downtime and quick resolution
- Collaborate with cloud, platform, and security teams to ensure high availability and resilience
6. Integration & Digital Ecosystem
- Work within a headless CMS ecosystem (e.g., Sitecore AI / XM Cloud) as a backend content platform
- Integrate APIs and services for personalization, analytics, search, and third-party tools
- Design scalable data exchange patterns and event-driven integrations
- Support digital marketing capabilities such as targeting, experimentation, and content delivery
7. Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Stay current with modern web technologies, frameworks, and performance optimization techniques
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve architecture, reduce technical debt, and enhance scalability
- Drive adoption of best practices, automation, and reusable solutions
- Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and knowledge sharing
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in full stack or frontend-focused development
- Strong hands-on expertise in:
- Next.js, React.js, TypeScript
- Headless architecture and API-driven development
- Vercel deployments and frontend hosting platforms
- Proven experience building enterprise-scale, multi-site and multi-lingual applications with GenAI and Agentic Mindset
- Solid understanding of:
- Web performance optimization
- SEO and accessibility standards
- Modern JavaScript ecosystem
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Sitecore XM Cloud / headless CMS platforms
- Familiarity with GraphQL, Content SDKs, and API orchestration
- Experience with Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse, and real-user monitoring tools
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (Vercel and Azure preferred)
- Familiarity with Vercel Edge Functions, Middleware, and serverless architectures
- Understanding of security best practices in web applications (WAF, OAuth, token security)
