Frontend Software Engineer - Zalando Payments (all genders)

As a Fronend Software Engineer at Zalando Payments you will plan, develop, test, and operate our core UX that allows our customers to pay in a secure and engaging fashion. Fashion retail imposes many interesting challenges on the payment experience that we address through tailored deferred payment options and other products. The experiences you will build in this role connect our customers to our APIs to enable their efficient and secure payment. The demanding and high standards of the fintech industry will challenge you to build compliant yet innovative and high quality solutions.

WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

• Develop and maintain high-quality, responsive, and scalable frontend systems for our customer-facing web applications, with a primary focus on React and Typescript

• Write clean, modular, testable, and maintainable code that you and your team can be proud of, ensuring it can be easily understood, evolved, and scaled

• Collaborate effectively with product managers to refine and clarify product requirements, and with UX/UI designers to translate wireframes and mockups into visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces that precisely meet user needs

• Work closely with backend engineers to design and integrate with RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL services, ensuring seamless data flow, optimal performance, and robust end-to-end solutions

• Actively participate in the entire product development lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to development, rigorous testing, deployment, and ongoing operation, taking full ownership of your features and their impact

• Champion best practices in frontend development, actively participate in constructive code reviews, share your knowledge generously, and contribute to a vibrant culture of continuous improvement and learning within the team

• Proactively identify and solve complex technical challenges, always approaching problems with a customer-centric mindset to deliver solutions that genuinely address their needs and enhance their experience. The consistent emphasis on these responsibilities reflects a desire for engineers who are not only technically proficient but also deeply passionate about their craft and the collaborative process of building outstanding products

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• You possess proven professional experience in frontend web development, demonstrating a strong command of React and Typescript

• You have a deep and practical understanding of modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, and the broader ecosystem of web technologies

• You are proficient in building responsive and performant user interfaces that deliver a seamless experience across various devices, browsers, and accessibility needs

• You have hands-on experience with modern state management libraries such as Redux, Zustand, or the Context API, and understand how to apply them effectively in complex applications

• You are comfortable working with version control systems like Git and are familiar with agile development methodologies, contributing to iterative development and continuous delivery

• You demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive, product-oriented mindset that drives you to seek out the best solutions

• You are a collaborative team player with excellent communication skills, capable of articulating technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences and constructively sharing your thoughts and feedback
