Job Summary:
WebCheckout is seeking a Front-End Design Engineer to lead the modernization of our web applications and improve user experiences. We are looking for a seasoned developer with a blend of technical expertise and strong design sensibilities. This role is ideal for someone who can translate complex business challenges into intuitive, visually polished, and scalable front-end solutions.The Front-End Design Engineer will work strategically across multiple projects, helping product teams refresh existing front ends, improve usability, and deliver consistent, high-quality UI solutions. Use of AI tools for productivity and efficiency iscore to this role, from generating components to improving workflow speed and quality.
Job Description:
Responsibilities
- Redesign and modernize the front-end interfaces across multiple applications, focusing on creating reusable UI components and design patterns.
- Collaborate with product teams, designers, and backend developers to deliver cohesive and maintainable front-end solutions.
- Use AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Replit, Figma AI, V0) to enhance productivity, accelerate prototyping, and maintain code quality.
- Review and troubleshoot existing UIs to identify opportunities for improved usability, accessibility, and performance.
- Ensure front ends are responsive, performant, and ready for integration with backend systems.
- Contribute to and help evolve shared design systems and front-end best practices across teams.
Required Skills and Experience
- 3+ years experience in front-end development and/or UI/UX design.
- Expert in modern JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Deep hands-on experience with at least one major front-end framework like React, Vue, or Angular.
- Strong knowledge of responsive design, state management, API integration, and browser debugging tools.
- Experience working with Figma or similar design tools.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and integrating front ends with backend services.
- Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve development speed, quality, or workflow efficiency.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively across multiple teams and projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience maintaining or building shared design systems or component libraries.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG).
- Experience optimizing front-end performance and responsiveness.
- Exposure to backend environments such as Java or Node.js.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Proven ability to refactor or migrate legacy front ends to modern architectures
- Experience with Linux, ANSI Common Lisp, and PostgreSQL is a plus.
