The opportunity
We are seeking a talented Front Line Engineering Manager - Specialty Engineering to support our world-class airborne surveillance, communications and battle management system, the E-7A Wedgetail. This role is based in Williamtown, Port Stephens NSW, supporting operational outcomes and working closely with teams across the enterprise.
This leadership role will oversee the specialty engineering team, comprising reliability, safety and flight operations engineering. The successful candidate will play a key role in sustaining platform capability, improving engineering efficiency, and enabling informed decision-making as the platform progresses through its mid-life phase.
A major focus of this role will be obsolescence management, ensuring engineering solutions are developed and implemented to mitigate emerging risks and maintain operational readiness. You will also lead the optimisation of tools and methods used in engineering data review, helping the team improve insight, speed, and effectiveness in support of sustainment outcomes.

We do encourage flexible work arrangements, balanced with the needs of the business and the operational environment. Some travel will be required, including visits to Amberley, Brisbane and Adelaide.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the specialty engineering team, including reliability, safety and flight operations engineering disciplines.
  • Provide front-line leadership, coaching and direction to ensure effective delivery of engineering outcomes.
  • Support the management of platform obsolescence risks as the aircraft approaches and progresses through mid-life.
  • Drive improvements in engineering data review processes through tool optimisation, automation opportunities and better use of data.
  • Coordinate with operational, maintenance and program stakeholders to ensure engineering advice is timely, relevant and actionable.
  • Promote safe, effective and efficient engineering practices aligned to Boeing Defence Australia standards and governance.
  • Oversee workload prioritisation, team capability development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support sustainment decision-making through analysis, technical insight and engineering leadership.
  • Build strong working relationships across Williamtown, Amberley, Brisbane and Adelaide as required.

Experience / Qualifications
  • Qualifications in engineering.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in aerospace or defence engineering environments.
  • Experience in reliability, safety, flight operations, sustainment engineering or related specialty engineering disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of obsolescence management and mid-life platform support would be highly regarded.
  • Experience improving engineering tools, workflows or data review processes is desirable.
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
