Do you have experience in software engineering and want to help shape the future of Netflix Animation Studios creating state-of-the-art tools?
The Production Tools Engineering team develops and supports technology used by the Production Management (Production) personnel at NAS. Our studio is distributed across three facilities: Vancouver, Burbank, and Sydney. The team develops and supports web applications and cloud-based tools built atop Netflix's world-class technology stack. Our team operates at the intersection of creativity, business, and technology at the studio with the goal of maximizing the operational efficiency of the Production team. We create, refine, and support state-of-the-art tools needed to fulfill the exciting slate of animated films being produced at NAS. We partner closely with other technology teams within both NAS and the Netflix corporation.
A team member in this role must be an experienced web front-end developer with strong UI/UX design sensibilities. The role requires someone capable of working in a modern tech stack using React, Vite, and Apollo Client for GraphQL. Important skills include root cause analysis, working effectively with service APIs, and an eye for good design. In addition, the role expects a developer who is comfortable interacting directly with Production users and requires someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience working within the animation, VFX or games industries is highly preferred. Team members should be comfortable gathering user requirements, understanding use-cases, and providing white-glove support when necessary. This role offers freedom to learn and be technically creative while challenging you to collaborate on solutions to a wide variety of problems.
The complex, fast-paced environment demands team members with agility, curiosity, and alacrity. If this sounds like you, we’d love to talk.
What you’ll do:
Design, implement, and support web applications and UIs involving multiple features and external dependencies.
Implement and support integrations with Flow Production Tracking (aka ShotGrid) such as embedded web views and AMIs (action menu items).
Maintain and update existing web applications.
Partner with Production to understand workflows and translate them into technical solutions.
What You’ll Need:
Experience working in the animation, VFX, or games industries.
Experience with Flow Production Tracking.
5+ years of experience as a front-end engineer.
Proficiency to write code in TypeScript. Experience with additional languages is highly preferred but not required.
Proficiency to read and comprehend code in multiple programming languages.
Experience with React, Vite, npm, and node.
A willingness to collaborate and compromise. The ideal candidate is an engineer and product owner - balancing their own vision with technical limitations, production needs, and contributions from colleagues.
You proactively identify opportunities to improve systems and workflows, not just implement tickets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will represent the whole team in various meetings, gathering use cases, feedback, presenting solutions and more.
A strong background in computer science and a thorough understanding of software design patterns and best practices.
Experience collaborating with designers and translating designs into great user experiences.
Bonus:
Experience with other web frameworks, especially Vue.js.
Experience with Java and Python.
Experience with desktop UI frameworks such as PyQt.
Experience with service APIs using GraphQL and gRPC.
This role is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Hybrid Role (Minimum of 3 days a week in the office).
