Job Description

The Fraud Analyst is responsible for detecting, preventing, mitigating, and recovering from fraudulent activity across all banking products and services. This role involves monitoring transactions, analyzing patterns, and leveraging fraud detection tools to identify suspicious behavior. The analyst partners with internal business units and engages directly with customers to resolve issues, minimize financial loss, and strengthen fraud prevention strategies. The role also involves triaging reported activity and creating cases for Investigators to ensure timely and accurate escalation of fraud incidents. Additionally, the position ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and contributes to the development of policies and controls that enhance the bank's fraud risk management framework.
 
Essential Functions
•    Monitor and analyze customer transactions for potential fraud using advanced detection systems and other processes
•    Conduct reviews and complete documentation with the highest level of quality, accuracy, and attention to detail
•    Demonstrate knowledge of fraud typologies to recognize unusual/suspicious activity
•    Partner with internal teams and communicate directly with customers to ensure timely resolution and prevention of fraudulent transactions.
•    Determine whether alerts should be escalated to the investigation group based on Northwest policies and procedures
•    Collect, analyze, and safeguard sensitive information concerning the customers of Northwest
•    Effectively maintain customer and case files, records, and related documentation
•    Identify emerging fraud trends and recommend strategies to prevent future occurrences to leadership
•    Adhere to the performance metrics provided by Northwest management and continue education to stay current with any regulatory expectations
•    Ability to make right decisions based on perceptive and analytical processes, practicing good judgment in gray areas
 
Additional Essential Functions
•    Ensure compliance with Northwest’s policies and procedures, and Federal/State regulations
•    Navigate Microsoft Office Software, computer applications, and software specific to the department in order to maximize technology tools and gain efficiency
•    Work as part of a team
•    Work with on-site equipment

Education 
Bachelor's Degree    Business, Finance or equivalent field              
 
Work Experience
Less than 1 year    Bank or fraud related experience             
Less than 1 year    Branch banking or banking operations

•    Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards.  
•    Ability to understand account histories and transactions  
•    Knowledge of check cashing laws    
•    Data Analysis, reviewing and understanding data sets to identify suspicious activities and trends    
•    Knowledge of bank regulations surrounding fraud    
•    knowledge of Microsoft office products - including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook

Skills Required
