The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Work as a generalist engineer across backend systems, machine learning and core infrastructure, building features from start to finish. You will partner closely with the founders and other engineers and help set engineering practices as one of the first engineering hires.
What you'll do
- Build backend systems that combine machine learning components with traditional infrastructure and system design.
- Deliver features end-to-end across whatever the team is working on.
- Collaborate with the engineering team and the founders on priorities and execution.
- Help shape engineering culture and process as an early engineering hire.
- Iterate quickly in a small team, adjusting as the product changes.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- 0 to 3 years of engineering experience; recent graduates with exceptional signal are considered.
- Real technical depth and the ability to reason about backend, ML and infrastructure systems from first principles.
- A demonstrated track record of building, such as personal projects or public code you have shipped.
- High agency, fast learning and clear, concise communication about what you built and why.
- Strong builder mindset and motivation to create things rather than to add lines to a resume.
- Willingness to work in person five days a week in San Francisco.
- Eligibility to work in the US.
Bonus points
- Public code shared with the wider developer community.
- Familiarity with recommendation, ranking or advertising systems.
- Fluency in PyTorch.
- Experience at a large consumer technology or ad infrastructure company.

Compensation and benefits
- Base salary: USD 240,000 to 250,000 per year
