The Role
Be Finch's first product designer owning end-to-end design for external case management and converging internal tools. About Finch

We believe every American household deserves access to counsel in life’s biggest moments. At Finch, we’re building the infrastructure to make justice radically more accessible. Our modern approach to consumer law automates the admin work and puts clients first, starting with personal injury.

In just over a year, we've grown 10x, raised a $20M Series A, and become the pre-litigation partner of choice for top personal injury firms across the country. We believe the best outcomes happen when expert operators and purpose-built AI work together – which is why we handle every step of pre-lit, from intake and claim opening to medical records, lien management, and demands, with humans leading every case.

We’re backed by Sequoia, Redpoint, and the founders & CEOs of generational companies like DoorDash, Ironclad, and Digits. We’re rebuilding how the law serves everyday Americans from first principles, and we’re hiring exceptional operators to help us scale it nationwide.

👋 Note from Rishi

Hi! I'm Rishi, I lead Product at Finch. Design has not existed as its own discipline yet at Finch. Members of our Technical Staff are doing their own design work, which has worked well thus far, but will soon cease to do so as we roll out external-facing products for our law firm partners (see Finch OS).

You'd be our first product designer, reporting to the CTO, and working directly with me and other stakeholders – engineers, strategy & ops, growth. Our hope is for this person to scale the design practice/function over time. doing your own discovery (sitting with paralegals and attorneys, watching how they actually work today), and engineers trusting your process because you think in code, not just Figma.

Personal injury law is a messy, operationally intense domain, and you'll need real curiosity about the weeds of it, not just clean consumer-UI instincts. If you do your best work off a polished brief someone else wrote, this probably isn't it.

This Role

Finch is at the point where design can change the trajectory of the product. Right now, no one owns it. You'll be our first product designer, working directly with our founders, Rishi (Product), and engineering to bring structure and discovery to what's currently ad hoc, starting with the external-facing case management tool in beta today. The people relying on your work are legal operators and law firm partners navigating high-stakes, time-sensitive casework – and the engineers who, until now, have had no design partner at all.

What You'll Do

You'll own design across Finch's entire surface area – product, brand, and the emerging AI experiences in between. This role will grow as the company does; expect to define its scope as much as execute within it.

  • Own product design end-to-end for Finch's external-facing case management tool – the system law firms use to manage their cases with us.

  • Do real discovery before you design: sit with attorneys and paralegals, watch how they work today (in Finch's tools and in competitors like Filevine), and find the friction before proposing a fix.

  • Turn one-off stakeholder requests into systems-level solutions that hold up across the product, rather than local patches that create clutter for the next person.

  • Work close to code, not just Figma – partner directly with engineering, and ship simple changes (copy, layout, styling) yourself where it makes sense.

  • Help extend the external product experience to our internal paralegal tools as the two converge over the coming quarter.

  • Hold your own point of view in design reviews – push back with reasoning rather than just executing whatever's asked.

  • Flex into brand or marketing work occasionally when our contract brand designer is at capacity – not the core of the role, but useful.

Who We Have in MindMust-Haves
  • 4–10 years as a product designer with direct ownership of complex workflows, ideally at a recognizable consumer or B2B company.

  • A demonstrated pattern of doing discovery before designing – sitting with the people doing the job, not just taking a brief and running with it.

  • Experience designing operationally intensive workflow software, not just consumer or mobile UI – B2B, ops-heavy, or similarly complex domains.

  • Comfort thinking in code and working close to engineering, rather than handing off static Figma files.

  • A track record of holding and defending your own design decisions with reasoning, while staying easy to collaborate with.

Nice-to-Haves
  • Both consumer and B2B-operational experience in the same background (e.g. a high-bar consumer company plus operational product work).

  • Some comfort with AI-native design tools to ship simple changes independently.

  • Experience supporting brand or marketing work alongside product design.

  • Genuine curiosity about the personal injury or legal domain, or a track record of getting deep into unfamiliar, messy industries fast.

This Role Might Not Be For You If
  • You do your best work when the roadmap, problems, and success metrics are already defined for you.

  • You'd rather stay in Figma and hand off – bridging into code and sitting with real users isn't how you like to work.

  • You're drawn to this for the glossy consumer-brand story and don't have real interest in "grungy" operational problems.

At Finch Legal, we believe in practicing what we advocate.

As a company dedicated to upholding justice and protecting people in the workplace, we are equally committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment within our own walls. We welcome and support individuals from all backgrounds and lived experiences — regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or veteran status.

We recognize that diversity strengthens our team, enriches our perspectives, and empowers us to better serve our clients and communities. At Finch Legal, inclusion isn’t just a value — it’s a practice.
