The Role
Build and deploy AI agents, integrations, automations, dashboards, and internal tools for Jetson’s supply chain teams. Embed with procurement, planning, and warehouse stakeholders to understand workflows, improve system connectivity, automate purchasing and inventory processes, and provide real-time operational visibility. The role also involves scoping requirements, driving adoption, and generalizing successful solutions into a reusable internal engineering platform.

About Jetson

Jetson is on a mission to accelerate the transition of 100 million homes across North America away from fossil fuels toward sustainable energy use. We believe in a future that is 100% electric and 100% better.

Homes are one of the largest sources of carbon emissions, yet adoption of solutions like heat pumps remains slow due to cost and complexity. Jetson is solving this by building the first fully vertically integrated home electrification company — making clean energy simple, transparent, and affordable.

We rely heavily on technology, automation, and data to scale this impact. At Jetson, we value people who are excellent at their craft, curious about new tools (including AI), and motivated to continuously improve how work gets done.

The Opportunity

We're building a new kind of role to help us scale: the Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE). The title was originally coined for engineers embedded with external customers, and we've pointed that model inward. As an FDE on our Supply Chain team, your customers are Jetson's own teams. You'll sit with them, learn their work deeply, and build the agents, tools, and automations that change how they operate.
Instead of routing every request through a central engineering backlog, we put engineers inside the teams that need help. You hear the problem firsthand, build the fix, and iterate the next day. FDEs across functions build on a shared internal platform alongside core engineering, so every automation you ship makes the next one faster. The more we deploy, the faster we can deploy.

Who You Are
  • A builder who ships. Strong engineering fundamentals, good judgment, and a drive to get things into people's hands. You're fluent in TypeScript, Python, or other high-level language, comfortable with SQL, APIs, and cloud tooling, and you write code others can build on. You value breadth and speed over deep specialization.
  • An excellent communicator. This is what separates the role from a typical SWE job and brings it closer to a PM. You can sit with purchasing, planning, and warehouse stakeholders, draw out what they actually need (often not what they first asked for), explain tradeoffs, and drive a project to adoption.
  • A fast learner who's excited by the domain. You're energized by getting deep into how Supply Chain works: its workflows, systems, and constraints. Familiarity with procurement, inventory, demand planning, or logistics, or with ERP/WMS/PLM systems (we use NetSuite, RF Smart, and Arena), is a plus, but what matters more is the drive and ability to learn it fast. You ask good questions, make reasonable assumptions, and iterate as reality pushes back.
  • AI-native. AI is core to how you build, not a novelty. You use tools like Claude Code or Cursor to move faster, and you know when to trust the model and when to push back. You've built agentic and LLM-powered features, and you understand the real challenges: latency, cost, reliability, evaluation, and graceful failure.
  • Comfortable without a playbook. You thrive where the problem isn't fully defined. You'd rather ship something useful this week and improve it than perfect it for a quarter. You measure yourself by whether the team is faster and more capable because of what you built, not by lines of code.
What You’ll Do
  • Embed and learn the domain. Sit with the team, observe the work, and build real fluency in how Supply Chain operates: procurement and inventory workflows, demand planning, supplier relationships, the system stack, and how equipment actually flows to install sites. This is the core of the job, not background context.
  • Build agents that automate real work. Find supply chain workflows that AI agents can handle or accelerate, then design, build, and ship them. For example, an agent that drafts and tracks purchase orders and chases supplier confirmations, or one that flags inventory discrepancies across locations before they cause a stockout. Know where an agent earns its keep versus where a simple script is cheaper and more reliable.
  • Connect systems and keep data flowing. Much of the team's friction is manual handoffs between systems. You'll build and maintain integrations and automations that keep inventory positions, PO status, BOM updates, and warehouse transactions flowing accurately across NetSuite, RF Smart, and Arena, and trigger the right actions (like replenishment) automatically.
  • Build dashboards and tools. Give purchasing, planning, warehouse, and leadership clear, real-time visibility: a live view of stock, in-transit orders, and upcoming demand; a forecast that turns the install pipeline into a purchasing signal; the numbers people currently dig out by hand.
  • Always be scoping. Question requirements directly with the team. The best solution is often smaller than the original ask, or solves the real problem another way. Ship value now, iterate from there.
  • Generalize into the platform. Push reusable capabilities into the shared internal platform alongside other FDEs and core engineering, rather than piling up one-off scripts. Weigh hacking something for Supply Chain today against building something ten teams use tomorrow.
How You Will Grow
  • Become a rare kind of engineer. Few people can connect a messy real-world domain, the data under it, and software people actually adopt. You'll build exactly that profile, which is one of the most valuable in the industry right now.
  • See the whole business. Embedded in Supply Chain and plugged into the core platform, you'll understand how Jetson works end to end, from a purchase order to a heat pump installed in a home. That makes you a stronger engineer and a sharper decision-maker.
  • Help define a new discipline at Jetson. We're early in understanding how AI changes what a small team can do. You'll set the patterns, platform, and standards for how forward deployed engineering works here.
