The Role
Integrate and deploy AI models on customer robotic platforms, adapt training and deployment pipelines, diagnose integration and perception issues, support on-site and remote deployments, coordinate across teams, and track deployment KPIs to scale proofs-of-concept into production.
Summary Generated by Built In
mimic is an early stage deep tech robotics & AI start-up based in Zurich and supported by leading VCs. We give industry workers a helping hand for tedious manual labour tasks and mitigate labour shortages with a versatile automation platform. Our automation solutions, driven by dexterous robotic hands and cutting edge AI trained on human observations, bring a new level of AI embodiment to the real world.
As a Forward Deployed Robotics Engineer, you will bring mimic's AI capabilities to new robotic platforms and customer environments. You will work directly with robotics customers to integrate our models, optimize their software and robotics stack, and drive the technical changes required for successful deployment.
Working across AI, robotics, and software, you will own technical integrations from initial planning through deployment. You will also help build scalable tooling and workflows that make our AI capabilities easier to deploy, monitor, and improve across different robotic platforms
Responsibilities
- Integrate and deploy mimic's AI models on different robotic platforms and hardware stacks
- Adapt our software, training, and deployment stack to new robots, sensors, and environments
- Work directly with customer engineering teams to integrate and optimize their robotics stack
- Diagnose AI, software, and robotics integration issues and drive them to resolution
- Build scalable tooling and workflows for deploying, monitoring, and improving our models
- Define technical requirements and implement features that improve model productization
- Own deployment planning and execution, coordinating across customers and internal teams
- Translate deployment learnings into improvements for our AI, robotics, and product stack
- Track deployment performance and communicate progress and technical risks to stakeholders
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Robotics, AI, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
- Strong robotics background and a very good understanding of physical AI and robotics systems
- Excellent software engineering skills, with the ability to design, implement, and test robust solutions
- Strong Python skills and experience with modern machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch
- Experience deploying AI/ML systems on real robotic hardware
- Good understanding of AI training methods, data pipelines, and model evaluation
- Ability to build repeatable and scalable solutions rather than one-off integrations
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across AI, software, and robotics
- Strong ownership and ability to independently plan and execute technical deployments
- Excellent communication skills and confidence working directly with technical customers
- Fluent English
- Willingness to travel for customer deployments and technical workshops
- Driving Licence (B)
Nice to have
- Familiarity with modern robot learning approaches (imitation learning, reinforcement learning, diffusion policies, foundation models)
- Experience with robotic manipulation, ROS/ROS2, robot control systems, or simulation environments
- Experience integrating AI models with robotic hardware platforms
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containerization, and deployment tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a total compensation package including a competitive yearly base salary and a strong stock option package to make you part of our shared success.
You will have the opportunity to shape a robotics & AI company from the ground up. In flat hierarchies you will work directly with the founders and some of the best talents in the robotics space. At mimic, you are accepted for who you are. As part of our ongoing journey towards creating a diverse and inclusive environment we encourage everyone to apply and we are looking forward to you bringing along your knowledge, personal experiences, and fresh perspectives. Together we can solve some of the greatest challenges in robotics.
