LOCATION:                Initial Placement – Green Lane Sports Complex
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Secondary school.
  • 1 year experience in forestry, arboriculture, horticulture operations, or a related field.
  • Experience with tools and equipment.
  • Good knowledge of tree identification, invasive species, pruning, hazard tree removal, proactive maintenance, and tree planting.
  • Working knowledge of digital applications including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Good communication skills relating to other staff members and the general public.
  • Good interpersonal and records management skills.
  • Demonstrated safe work practices in compliance with applicable legislation including Occupational Health and Safety Act, Book 7 – Ontario Traffic Manual, County of Brant Health & Safety Policies & Procedures, etc.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including day, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Valid Class G driver’s licence and acceptable driver’s abstract.
  • Acceptable police records check.
Assets:
  • Post-secondary education in an Urban Forestry/Arboriculture or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of chainsaws, chippers, and related equipment.
  • Experience working with a GIS-based tree inventory systems.
  • Knowledge of rope and rigging techniques.
  • Prior experience working in a municipal setting.
  • Chainsaw operators certification.
Duties:
  • Active involvement in the operation of tree planting and tree maintenance outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Daily review of tree maintenance requests including but not limited to pruning, removal, stumping, and planting.
  • Conduct tree inventory tasks and assist with trail maintenance.
  • Active involvement in the care and preventative maintenance of related equipment.
  • Operate specialized equipment in a safe and efficient manner, including chippers, chainsaws, stump grinders, and pruning tools.
  • Support the County’s young tree maintenance program which includes watering, mulching and pruning of newly planted trees on County lands.
  • Provide excellent customer service; respond to the needs of customers and staff as required.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.
Hourly Rate: $26.75 (Probationary) $33.16 (Full-time)                 
Duration: September to December                           40 hours/week (days, evenings, weekends)
