ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Implementing collaborative teaching strategies with academic and/or enrichment teachers to a cluster of scholars.
  2. Supporting the development and delivery of relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons.
  3. Ensuring the academic and social development of scholars throughout the course of the program.
  4. Serving as a role model for an assigned group of scholars.
  5. Working with teachers to identify scholar needs and develop instructional plans and practices to best support scholars.
  6. Monitoring scholars’ educational and social progress and making necessary recommendations for adjustments.
  7. Supporting classroom and behavior management consistently to develop a safe and productive learning environment.
  8. Maintaining attendance and supporting classroom procedures/functions.
  9. Supervising scholars during classroom transitions as well as during lunch, snack, recess, etc.
  10. Assisting in field trips and special events.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Academic skills – proficiency in elementary math and literacy.
  2. Minimum 1 year working with Children
  3. Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback.
  4. Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse populations.
  5. Desire to work with elementary scholars and their families in under-resourced communities.
  6. Outstanding verbal, written, and technological (computer/internet) skills.
  7. Ability to build relationships and influence scholars, staff, community members & families.
  8. Demonstrated leadership ability.
  9. Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  10. Committed to the goals of the program and approach.
  11. Love and respect for children.
  12. Evidence of efficacy and willingness to be a team player.
  13. Belief and commitment to the Y’s mission and values.
  14. CPR & First Aid certifications through either American Red Cross or American Heart Association Heartsaver. Class must be either a blended or in-person class. Certifications obtained online will not meet this requirement. Certifications must be maintained and current for the entire camp season.
  15. Criminal Record Clearance

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
  2. This position may require the ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, wade in water in order to supervise children, able to walk continuously at least ½ mile, spend a full workday outdoors in any weather condition.
  3. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
