The Flight Student Mentor plays a vital role in the student experience at every stage of the training journey. This position is responsible for providing peer-level guidance, encouragement, and accountability to assigned students while helping to foster a campus culture where every student feels supported and connected. From participating in tutoring sessions and identifying at-risk students to helping the management team plan community events and representing the program at open houses, the Flight Student Mentor serves as both a resource and a role model. This individual leads by example — maintaining professional tools like LogTen Pro and LinkedIn — and understands that their engagement directly contributes to the success, retention, and reputation of the program. The ideal candidate is approachable, professionally minded, and genuinely invested in the growth of their fellow students and the broader aviation community.


Essential Functions


• Serve as a dedicated mentor for assigned students, offering guidance, encouragement, and accountability throughout their training journey

• Support Tutoring sessions and other structured touchpoints to reinforce academic and flight performance and keeping confidentiality of all students progress

• Help identify students who may be struggling and connect them with appropriate instructors or administrative resources

• Maintains an active LinkedIn profile and is connected to Spartan Leadership, serving as an example to fellow students on the importance of building a professional online presence early in their aviation career

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date flight records using LogTen Pro, while serving as a peer resource to help fellow students adopt and effectively utilize the platform for their own logbook management

• Help plan and participate in campus social events — think cookouts, fly-outs, and milestone celebrations — that make students feel connected and supported

• Actively engaged in the Student/Cadet App where appropriate

• Share your story with prospective students at open houses and marketing events

• Assist and support in reviews on google and other other platforms


Knowledge / Skills


• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport among peers

• Ability to provide guidance, encouragement, and constructive accountability in a relatable, peer-to-peer setting

• Familiarity with LogTen Pro or willingness to learn and advocate for its use among fellow students

• Comfortable connecting students with the appropriate instructor or administrative resources when needed

• Active and professional presence on LinkedIn with an understanding of the value of early career networking in the aviation industry

• Willingness to participate in and help coordinate campus events that foster community and student engagement

• Comfortable engaging with digital platforms and student-facing apps as a resource and point of connection

• Ability to authentically represent the program at open houses, marketing events, and in public-facing settings

• Willingness to contribute to the program's public reputation through reviews and other outreach efforts

• Positive attitude, professionalism, and a genuine passion for aviation and helping fellow students succeed


Qualifications

Education and Work Experience


• High School diploma or GED required

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in the flight program required

• Active user of LogTen Pro for personal logbook management preferred

• Maintains a current and active LinkedIn profile with a professional presence preferred

Primarily sedentary work; requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and operating office equipment. Occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to view computer screens for extended periods. Minimal exposure to environmental hazards. Work is normally performed in a typical professional campus/office work environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger; and talk or hear.
