The Role

About This Role

                                                                                                         

Reporting to the Director of NFTC Operations, the Flight Safety Counsellor is responsible for responding to flight safety incidents and accidents, conducting investigations, and maintaining safety reporting protocols. They implement preventative measures, conduct inspections and training, and participate in audits. Additionally, they liaise with stakeholders, monitor quarantine procedures, and coordinate on-call activities.

The role we are offering you:

  • Respond to any and all flight safety events, incidents and accidents as required, including on-scene responses outside of normal working hours and on-call if necessary. 

  • Participate in the investigation of accidents, including conducting witness interviews, analyzing technical data from various sources, manage quarantine and/or release of quarantined items and data. 

  • Complete and maintain flight safety reporting protocols; track and analyze historical data and trends; adjust education and awareness campaigns, or procedures and protocol as necessary. 

  • Conduct inspections and perform related training and education related to compliance and prevention. 

  • Implement appropriate preventative and continuous improvement measures. 

  • Lead and participate in internal or external audit programs related to the flight safety function and program. 

  • Contribute to the 15 Wing Flight Safety program, participate as a member of the 15 Wing Safety and FOD Committees. 

  • Monitor the parts quarantine lock up and database. 

  • Actively participate in ground search and ground based training activities as required. 

  • Maintain and coordinate on-call activities with an appropriate number of CMAT trained and readily available flight safety representatives who report elsewhere in the organization. 

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including leaders and executives representing the interests of CAE in relation to the applicable flight safety programs and activities. 

  • Travel as required in the performance of their duties. 

Our ideal candidate:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a technical background in aircraft maintenance, airworthiness engineering or a similar related field. 

  • Possess or be willing and able to quickly obtain the required DND Flight Safety qualifications. 

  • Demonstrates a passion and interest in aviation and flight safety, and a continuous improvement mindset. 

  • Be able to demonstrate a considerable amount of initiative and self-motivation in the performance of their past and recent duties. 

  • Be physically able to attend to on-site scenes for the purpose of quarantine or collection of aircraft parts and accident investigation activities. 

As a condition of employment, candidate must successfully pass a security evaluation per the requirements of the Controlled Goods Directorate of Canada and to CAE being able to obtain all necessary re-transfer authorization in compliance with US ITAR regulations.
