Purpose:


As a Fitter you will be responsible for assembling and fitting miscellaneous steel components according to technical drawings and blueprints, ensuring that they meet design specifications and quality standards.


Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
  2. Weld steel members.
  3. Move steel members into positions, manually or with hoists or cranes.
  4. Position, align, fit, and track weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
  5. Determine appropriate method and sequence of tasks in order to fabricate items in the most efficient way possible.
  6. Coaching and training of lower-level fitters to help them advance in their skill sets.
  7. Assisting foreman and managers maintain consistent workflow and production on shop floor to ensure timely completion of projects.
  8. Ensure all peers are following all safety policies.
  9. Conduct thorough quality checks to identify and rectify defects, ensuring that the finished product meets quality standards.

Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities, and Competencies:


Fitter 1:

  1. Basic Metalworking Skills:
    • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and basic metalworking machinery.
    • Basic understanding of fabrication processes such as cutting, grinding, and drilling.
  2. Blueprint Reading:
    • Ability to interpret simple technical drawings and blueprints.
  3. Welding Proficiency:
    • Advanced skills in welding, including the ability to perform intricate welding tasks using various techniques.

    • Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a secure working environment.
  2. Team Collaboration:
    • Willingness to work as part of a team and follow instructions from experienced fitters and supervisors.

Fitter II:

    • Advanced ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and blueprints.

    • Strong focus on quality assurance, with the ability to identify and rectify defects or deviations from specifications.
  5. Problem-Solving:

Fitter III:

    • Expertise in reading and interpreting complex technical drawings and blueprints.

    • Strong focus on quality assurance, overseeing the entire fabrication process and ensuring the highest standards are met.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:


  1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training is a plus.
  2. Two years experience in steel fabrication or welding.

Upon offer or promotion, candidate must pass a drug and/or alcohol test.
