Overview:

This position will lead a team of risk professionals within First Line Risk for the Retail Bank and will have responsibility for developing and overseeing the long-term strategy for Risk and Control Management across all risk pillars. 

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the identification and assessment of operational and non-operational risks and controls for Retail in alignment with Enterprise Risk requirements 
  • Establish a model of continuous improvement, leveraging agile principles to identify areas of opportunity for control automation
  • Develop an operating model for how the team will interact within our Ops and Risk framework including governance, issues management and monitoring/testing.  Collaborate with key stakeholders and business partners to build process map inventory for key processes.
  • Build and strengthen strategic partnerships with internal business partners and across all lines of defense
  • Lead FLR talent employee development to support team member career growth and organizational effectiveness
  • Champion strategic initiatives within team of oversight and across FLR to meet strategic and long-term needs of the organization
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite Statement. 
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
  • Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:

Manages a team of three or more risk managers or analysts

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years’ proven project management experience,

OR in lieu of a degree,

A combined minimum of 14 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 10 years’ proven project management experience.

Education and Experience Preferred:

Master's degree in a related field

Applicable certifications aligned to function or domain such as Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Professional Risk Manager (PRM), or Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP)

Strong ability to effectively influence peers and leaders

Excellent mentoring and leadership capabilities, including strong ability to develop people leaders

Excellent ability to encourage teamwork and guide a team towards executing upon shared goals

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $128,900.00 - $214,900.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
