Overview

CSL Australia is currently looking for a permanent full time First Engineer to join our cement carrier Goliath on a roster schedule 6 weeks on and 6 weeks off. This operation is based in the Bass Strait. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the First Engineer is responsible for the delegation of maintenance and repair tasks to other Engineering Officers including themselves.

How will you contribute to our success?

The First Engineer will be responsible for: 

  • Assisting the Chief Engineer in identifying deficiencies in procedures; 
  • Being the Senior Officer in charge of daily Engine Room and maintenance; 
  • Providing guidance and assistance to the less experienced Engineers and coordinates the Engine Room training programs for new entrants and Engineer Cadets; 
  • Ensuring all spare part usage is recorded within the computer PMS system on a daily basis.

Basic Requirements 


  • Educational requirement: as per AMSA Marine Order 72 – Engineer Class 2 (required) 
  • AMSA Engineer (Class 2) CoC/CoR Unlimited 
  • Minimum 3 years sea time as an Engine Watchkeeper(required) 
  • Certificate of Safety Training (STCW) (desirable) 
  • Work Safely at Heights Certification (desirable) 
  • Enter and Work in Confined Space Certification (desirable) 
  • Hold, or be eligible to obtain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) (required) 
  • Australian Citizen or unlimited Australian Working Rights 
  • Living in Australia

Skills Required
