Join Us in Building the Future of Home Robotics

At Sunday, we're developing personal robots to reclaim the hours lost to repetitive tasks. We're focused on an ambitious goal to make generalized robots broadly accessible, enabling households to take back quality time.

We have spent the last 18 months building a talented team, securing capital, and validating our technology. We are now seeking passionate individuals to join us in the next phase of our growth. If you are ready to apply your skills to the forefront of robotics innovation, we’d love to hear from you.

What to Expect

You will be one of the early members of the EE & Firmware team, which develops embedded software for our home robot and our wearable. This includes sensing, networking, motor control, power distribution, and more.

As a Firmware Engineer, you will work on robust, high-performance firmware across the entire home robot. You’ll get the chance to own multiple new boards from the initial hardware design phase, take them through board bring-up with the EE team, and integrate them into the robot. This will also include generalist work beyond firmware: motor control, systems software, and embedded Linux. In doing this, you’ll collaborate closely with the electrical, mechanical, software, controls, and machine learning teams to solve complex problems across hardware and software boundaries.

What You'll Do

  • Own firmware end-to-end across our wearable and robot, from architecture and implementation through integration and production

  • Write high-performance host-side systems software serving as the interface layer between firmware and higher-level software

  • Develop robust communications, OTA, and diagnostics infrastructure for embedded devices

  • Work with the EE team to design and bring up new hardware

  • Solve difficult cross-functional problems spanning hardware, firmware, embedded Linux, and higher-level software

What You'll Bring

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • 3+ years of real-time embedded software development, with experience in areas such as architecture design, MCU selection, driver development, and working with RTOSes

  • Proficiency in an embedded systems programming language, such as C, C++, or Rust

  • Experience with debugging, instrumentation, and performance optimization across hardware, firmware, and host-side systems software

  • Experience working with electrical engineering teams, with the ability to read and understand board schematics and layouts

  • Experience with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN (FD), or Ethernet

Nice to Have
  • Delivered at least one project from prototype through mass production

  • Experience building robust, failure-tolerant firmware OTA pipelines

  • Experience with Ethernet firmware and communications protocol design, especially involving PTP-based time synchronization

  • Experience with embedded Linux, build systems (Bazel, CMake), or multi-device system architecture

  • Familiarity with common control techniques for robot actuators, including cascaded feedback control, PID tuning, and torque control

  • Experience with HIL testing, production validation software, or fleet-wide hardware observability

  • Experience developing or porting platform firmware, including coreboot, UEFI/BIOS, secure boot, or TPM integration

At Sunday Robotics, we’re building technology shaped by real people — curious, creative, and diverse. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

Even if you don’t meet every single requirement, we encourage you to apply. Studies show that women and underrepresented groups often hold back unless they meet 100% of the criteria — we don’t want that to be the reason we miss out on great talent.

Skills Required

  • BS or MS in Computer or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of real-time embedded software development (architecture, microcontrollers, drivers & libraries)
  • Proficiency in C and C++
  • Proficiency in Python in a production environment
  • Expertise in motor control concepts (FOC, PWM) and sensored/sensorless BLDC control
  • Familiarity with controls techniques for actuators (cascaded feedback control, PID tuning, torque control)
  • Experience reading and understanding schematics and PCB layout
  • Experience with hardware validation cycles, debug and measurement methods
  • Experience with CI/CD and HIL testing
  • Experience with communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UART, RS-485, CAN FD, EtherCAT
  • Experience with sensor interfacing, filtering, and digital signal processing (DSP)
