At Motorola Solutions, we believe that everything starts with our people. We’re a global close-knit community, united by the relentless pursuit to help keep people safer everywhere. Our critical communications, video security and command center technologies support public safety agencies and enterprises alike, enabling the coordination that’s critical for safer communities, safer schools, safer hospitals and safer businesses. Connect with a career that matters, and help us build a safer future.
Department OverviewVideo Solutions teams in the Kraków R&D center have been growing dynamically since 2019. Currently, we have more than 150 specialists on board working on solutions for fixed and mobile cameras, video analytics, video management systems, and access control. We serve public safety and commercial customers including healthcare, airports, retail, critical infrastructure, and public venues. No longer is video just reactive—looking back at what has taken place—but it also informs proactively, issuing alerts in real-time when a person, object, or vehicle appears or a perimeter is crossed.
You will join the Krakow Alta Video Team, a group responsible for developing camera firmware built primarily using Go (Golang) and C++. We are looking for a team player who enjoys solving complex problems and is eager to improve system stability and robustness. This is a unique opportunity to work in a performance-critical environment where software interacts directly with hardware components, collaborating with hardware engineers and backend/UI developers located in both Kraków and London.
Job Description
We are seeking a hands-on Firmware DevOps Engineer to lead the modernization of our firmware development infrastructure. In this role, you will not only maintain our build systems but actively shape the future of our CI/CD workflows. You will be responsible for migrating our core infrastructure from legacy systems to modern, standard tools while ensuring our developers have a stable environment to build high-performance firmware.
You will collaborate closely with firmware developers, hardware engineers, and QA to optimize costs and automate workflows.
What You’ll Do
Infrastructure Migration & Modernization
GitLab to GitHub Migration: Lead the strategic move of the main firmware repository from self-hosted GitLab to the corporate Motorola GitHub hosting environment.
CI/CD Evolution: Incrementally refactor and migrate CI pipelines from custom Jenkins workflows to GitHub Actions, ensuring seamless integration with the new repository structure.
Build Environment: Create, maintain, and optimize the environment for build systems, ensuring consistency across development and production stages.
Operational Support & Monitoring
Sanity Checks: Monitor existing CI/CD sanity check workflows, specifically overseeing daily firmware tests running on real camera hardware to ensure immediate feedback on code health.
Lab Infrastructure: Maintain and manage servers in the lab environment with support from the Lab Admin team.
Hardware Support: Provide operational support for lab infrastructure, including troubleshooting failing lab cameras or network issues to minimize downtime for the development team.
Tooling & Automation
AI Support Tools: Support and create new AI-enabled internal tools, such as automated camera log analyzers, to assist developers in debugging complex issues.
QA Collaboration: Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to define the scope of automated testing and optimize workflows to reduce recurrent infrastructure costs.
Basic Requirements
CI/CD Expertise: Strong practical knowledge of GitHub and GitHub Actions is essential. Experience creating pipelines for backend or embedded systems is highly preferred.
Containerization: Proficiency with Docker is required. Knowledge of Kubernetes is a strong plus.
Scripting: Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python, or Shell) to automate tasks and maintain operational tools.
Linux Proficiency: Familiarity with Linux administration, command line, and environment configuration.
Problem Solving: Ability to quickly triage problems, determine root causes, and drive resolutions, especially regarding hardware-software interactions.
Collaboration: Willingness to collaborate closely with colleagues in hardware engineering, QA, and backend development.
Language: Proficiency in English allowing for efficient communication.
