The Fireman is responsible for supporting onboard safety operations by conducting fire patrols, maintaining firefighting equipment, and assisting with safety system checks. The role plays a critical part in ensuring a high standard of safety onboard and supports the Chief Fireman in daily safety and fire prevention activities.
Working within the Deck Department, the Fireman actively contributes to maintaining shipboard safety, supporting emergency preparedness, and fostering a strong safety culture in line with company policies and procedures.
Perform fire patrol rounds during assigned watch duties
Carry out duties assigned by the Chief Fireman in line with operational and safety requirements
Conduct daily maintenance and testing of firefighting equipment on applicable vessels under instruction from the Chief Fireman
Support supervision of finger deployment during ship arrival and removal before departure
Perform safety system checks, including smoke detector testing, as directed by the Safety Officer or delegated officer
Support testing, control, and maintenance of ship safety systems and physical security
Actively contribute to a work environment that promotes a strong safety culture by following safety policies and procedures
Support tender service operations when applicable, in accordance with instructions from the Master and Staff Captain
Requirements
Associate qualification in Marine Transportation or completion of a vocational school or academy for firemen ashore
Previous professional experience as a fireman ashore
Good situational awareness and ability to remain effective under stress
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Ability to maintain firefighting and safety equipment to a professional standard
Willingness to perform fire patrol duties and assigned safety-related tasks
Commitment to following safety policies and procedures and contributing to a strong safety culture
English language proficiency at B1 level or higher
