As the Fire Protection Associate at Ford Energy in Glendale, KY, you will serve as the first-line command authority on shift, acting as the dedicated, non-working, on-scene Incident Commander during emergencies.  

Schedule: 2/2/3 12 Night Shift (12-Hour Shifts)

Responsibilities

What you'll do...

Incident Command

  • Establish and command the Incident Command Post (ICP) during all emergency incidents, managing tactical deployment and scene safety as the on-scene Incident Commander.
  • Direct emergency response operations including thermal suppression, hazardous materials releases, confined space rescue, high angle rescue, and medical emergencies.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for scene safety, resource deployment, and incident resolution until relieved or the incident is closed.

Shift Operations Management

  • Manage daily shift operations, including personnel assignments, daily equipment and apparatus checks, and shift-level training delivery.
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor a shift team, ensuring readiness at all times.
  • Conduct effective shift handoffs to ensure continuity of operations, open incidents, and equipment status between shifts.
  • Coordinate shift staffing, scheduling adjustments, and coverage to maintain response readiness.
  • Serve as a working supervisor during routine shift operations, balancing hands-on Emergency Response Team duties with personnel supervision and readiness.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety compliance on shift, serving as the first line of risk management for the Emergency Response Team.
  • Ensure shift-level compliance with permits, entry procedures, and hazard identification for confined space and high-risk work.
  • Conduct initial incident investigations and draft reports for review by the Senior Supervisor.
  • Partner with Senior Supervisor and Safety leadership to maintain consistent corporate expectations and standards across all shifts.

Training & Readiness

  • Deliver and oversee shift-level training, drills, and simulations to prepare the team for industrial thermal, hazmat, rescue, and medical emergencies.
  • Verify completion of periodic inspections, audits, and inventory of life safety equipment, apparatus, and PPE.
  • Support the development and certification progression of Emergency Response Technicians on shift. 
  • Maintain at least 100 hours of training per year.
Qualifications

You'll have...

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current certification as KY Firefighter II or Firefighter II from a nationally accredited organization.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a firefighter/emergency responder in an industrial, municipal, or comparable setting.
  • CPR/AED certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as Incident Commander, including command presence, sound judgment under pressure, and decisive decision-making during emergencies.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and personnel management skills, with the ability to supervise a diverse shift team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear incident reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and collaboration with fellow team members, plant team members, plant leadership, communications centers, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to handle conflict situations with good judgment, professionalism, and courtesy.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check, pre-hire physical, and drug screening.
  • Ability to successfully complete ERT physical agility requirements.
  • Ability to work a 2/2/3, 12-hour night shift schedule, including weekends, holidays, and plant shut downs due to weather. 
  • Ability to maintain constant state of readiness and work extended hours based on business needs.

Driving Requirements

  • Valid driver's license.
  • No conviction for Driving Under the Influence, possession of drugs/drug paraphernalia, or a suspended/revoked driver's license, or driving with a suspended/revoked license, within the past five years.
  • No more than two "at fault" motor vehicle accidents in the past year.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have the physical agility to walk, climb, crawl, bend, push, pull, lift, and balance over less than ideal terrain.
  • Must have the physical stamina and endurance to undertake, without adverse effects, lifting, carrying, and balancing loads in excess of 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance).
  • Must have the ability to see different color spectrums, with eyesight correctable to 20/20 in at least one eye.
  • Must have good eye-hand coordination and sufficient manual dexterity to manipulate equipment, instrumentation, and medications.
  • Must be able to differentiate between normal and abnormal findings in human physical conditions using visual, auditory, olfactory, and tactile observations.
  • Must be able to complete physical tests for validation of fitness, as required.

  • EMT Basic, Advanced, or Paramedic certification.
  • IFSAC certifications.
  • NFPA 1670 discipline certifications (technical rescue).
  • OSHA 30 Certification (will be required within 12 months of hire if not already held).
  • Prior experience as a Battalion Chief, Shift Captain, or equivalent shift-command role in an industrial or municipal fire/emergency service.
  • Experience managing hazardous materials response, confined space rescue programs, or high angle rescue operations.

Company: As Ford establishes a wholly owned subsidiary focused on Battery Energy Storage Systems, this role will initially be employed by Ford and is expected to transition to the subsidiary within one year.

This position is a salary grade 6-7 and ranges from $74,300-$144,900.     

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
