The FinOps Lead establishes and leads the enterprise cloud financial management practice under the Technology Business Manager. This role is accountable for cloud financial governance, optimization strategy, cost accountability, cloud forecasting, savings realization, and cloud-focused executive reporting.
The role manages the FinOps Analyst and works with Finance, Technology, Procurement, engineering, application, and service owners across Azure, Amazon Web Services, Snowflake, and related consumption platforms.

Education

Required - High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred - Bachelor's degree.

Work Experience

Required - 9 years of related experience,

OR

6 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.

Preferred - 6 years of programming experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Progressive experience in FinOps, cloud financial management, IT financial management, cloud governance, technology operations, or a related discipline, including program leadership.
  • Advanced understanding of cloud budgeting, forecasting, allocation, unit economics, commitments, savings measurement, showback, and chargeback concepts.
  • Experience leading cross-functional cloud cost governance and optimization activities.
  • Ability to translate technical consumption and financial data into actions, accountability, and measurable outcomes.
  • Leadership experience establishing enterprise governance, executive reporting, and cloud cost optimization practices.
  • FinOps Certified Professional or FinOps Certified Practitioner.
  • Certified Technology Business Management Executive or equivalent TBM credential.
  • Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or cloud financial management certification.
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library Foundation certification.
  • Working knowledge of IBM Cloudability, Apptio, Azure, Amazon Web Services, Snowflake, tagging standards, and commitment-management practices.
     

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish the FinOps roadmap, operating model, governance cadence, decision forums, and performance measures.
  • Define cloud financial governance policies, guardrails, ownership standards, escalation paths, and decision rights.
  • Lead cloud budgeting, forecasting, variance management, anomaly response, and executive review processes.
  • Establish tagging, cost allocation, account hierarchy, and ownership standards that connect consumption to applications, services, environments, cost centers, and business units.
  • Lead optimization efforts involving rightsizing, waste elimination, scheduling, commitments, architecture decisions, and resource retirement.
  • Ensure savings opportunities are validated, assigned, executed, verified, incorporated into forecasts, and reported as realized value.
  • Produce executive reporting covering cloud spend, forecasts, budget performance, allocation, optimization pipeline, realized savings, and governance compliance.
  • Align IBM Cloudability information and controls with the Apptio and TBM model.
  • Establish performance measures for tagging, allocation quality, forecast accuracy, budget variance, commitment utilization, optimization, and savings realization.
  • Integrate financial impact and cost accountability into architecture, service catalog, change, asset, and portfolio governance.
  • Lead FinOps stakeholder education, communications, champion networks, and behavioral adoption.
  • Set priorities and provide day-to-day leadership for the FinOps Analyst.

  • Ability to work flexible schedules such as nights, weekends, extended shifts, etc., travel throughout and between facilities, and travel out of town occasionally.

Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
