About the Role
WEX is expanding its FinOps practice, and we're looking for a FinOps Analyst to help bring financial accountability and transparency to our cloud spend. FinOps at WEX is both a practice and a cultural shift in the way we monitor the cloud from a financial perspective — it sits at the intersection of engineering, finance, and business strategy.
In this role, you'll be the connective tissue between the engineers who build in the cloud and the finance partners who fund it. You'll turn raw billing and usage data into clear, actionable insight that helps teams make better decisions about what they deploy, how they size it, and what it costs the business.
A full command of cloud architecture is not a prerequisite — though it's strongly encouraged and you'll grow into it here. What matters most is that you can interpret invoices and usage data, spot the story inside a spreadsheet, and communicate it credibly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
How you'll make an impact
The core component of this role is preparing financial and usage data for key stakeholders across the organization via iterative and ad-hoc delivery. This is done primarily through our cloud cost optimization and resource management platform, FinOpsly (accessed via MyApps Okta), alongside internal solutions built in Google Sheets and Excel.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Cost reporting & analysis — Prepare recurring monthly reports and slide decks summarizing cloud spend, trends, and variance against plan for engineering, finance, and executive stakeholders.
- Ad-hoc cost analysis — Respond to targeted questions from application owners, architects, and finance partners about specific workloads, accounts, services, or business units.
- Optimization recommendations — Surface and package optimization opportunities for engineering teams, including auto-generated recommendations from FinOpsly as well as your own analysis (rightsizing, idle resource cleanup, storage tiering, license rationalization).
- Commitment & reservation management — Support the reservation of resources (Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, committed-use discounts) to cover consistent production workloads, and track realized savings and coverage/utilization rates.
- Anomaly detection & tracking — Monitor for anomalous spend, investigate root cause, route findings to the responsible owner, and track issues through to resolution.
- Budget maintenance — Update and maintain cloud budgets, forecasts, and cost allocation structures as the environment and organizational mapping evolve.
- Tooling administration — Administer the FinOpsly platform, including user access, business mappings, dimensions, views, dashboards, and alert configuration.
- Stakeholder engagement — Attend and facilitate recurring meetings with account administrators and financial owners to review spend, socialize recommendations, and drive accountability for all of the above.
- Tagging & allocation hygiene — Partner with engineering teams to improve tagging compliance and cost allocation accuracy, including for shared services and SaaS spend.
Experience you'll bring
- 2+ years of experience in a financial analysis, business analysis, data analysis, or cloud operations role
- Advanced proficiency with Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel — pivot tables, lookups, conditional logic, and building reusable templates and models.
- Demonstrated ability to work with large, messy datasets and translate them into clear summaries and recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings to both engineering teams and finance/business leaders.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity and managing multiple concurrent ad-hoc requests alongside recurring deliverables.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Information Systems, Economics, Data Analytics, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with a cloud cost management platform — FinOpsly, CloudHealth, AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, or similar.
- Working familiarity with public cloud billing constructs across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and/or GCP — including reservations, savings plans, committed-use discounts, and enterprise agreements.
- Exposure to enterprise cloud commitment structures (e.g., MACC, EDP) and how consumption tracks against them.
- Dashboarding and visualization experience with Looker, Grafana, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Basic SQL and/or scripting (Python) for data extraction and transformation.
- FinOps Certified Practitioner certification (FinOps Foundation), or willingness to obtain within the first six months.
- Experience with cost allocation and showback/chargeback for SaaS and shared services.
