Job DescriptionYour mission:
We’re looking for an AML Investigations Team Lead to join our team in Budapest. This role is a unique opportunity to have an impact on Wise’s mission by helping identify suspicious activity and ensuring Wise remains compliant. You will play a crucial role in advancing our mission of Money Without Borders by leading a team of investigators in Budapest and collaborating with a larger team distributed across five different offices worldwide.
Your mission is to lead and support your team in identifying and analyzing suspicious payment patterns, ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations, and fostering a strong sense of community within the team. As an AML Investigations Team Lead, your primary duties include building and developing your team, optimizing operational processes, and collaborating with other teams to enhance efficiency and customer experience.
Here’s how you’ll be contributing to the AML Investigations team:
Leadership:
- Build, lead, and develop a team of AML Investigators with a strong sense of community and shared purpose.
- Empower your team by providing the necessary tools and training to excel in their roles.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, adapting your leadership style to meet the needs of your team members.
Performance and Operations:
- Measure and work towards improving team KPIs, ensuring the team meets performance metrics and regulatory standards.
- Initiate and support operational process changes to enhance team performance and efficiency.
- Collaborate with other leads, product teams, and developers to manage the operational impact of changes and identify opportunities for automation and improved customer experience.
Team Development:
- Facilitate ongoing professional growth by setting personal development plans and leveraging available resources.
- Lead by example, establishing a team identity built on trust, high standards, and accountability.
- Recognize and celebrate team contributions, motivating and inspiring individuals to excel.
Culture and Well-being:
- Foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture by exemplifying Wise’s values and supporting a healthy work-life balance.

A bit about you:
- You are authorised to work in Hungary; relocation support available (no visa sponsorship).
- You have 2+ years of experience in leading and developing teams in a similar role.
- You possess strong knowledge in AML / FinCrime fields.
- You have excellent written and spoken English skills, capable of communicating complex concepts clearly and effectively.
- You have a good understanding of and ability to analyze and improve team metrics, while collaborating with specialists in different areas.
- You have a proven track record of taking ownership and responsibility, as well as being a great team player.
- You possess excellent communication and presentation skills to assist with internal and external projects and audits.
