We're rapidly heading towards a future where most of us access financial services through technology companies rather than high street banks. All sorts of companies are now embedding financial products into their apps and user journeys so that their customers can seamlessly make payments, manage expenses, take out loans, save, invest, and do more.

The problem is that companies are still dependent on legacy banking infrastructure if they want to offer regulated financial products. They need to either partner directly with an incumbent bank and/or stitch together middleware from various Banking as a Service (BaaS) providers. This process is slow, expensive, and complex and makes it very hard for companies to get new financial products off the ground.

The Fincrime Operations team

The Service (operations) team at Griffin is the mindful engine room, driving our success. We strive to bring joy to our customers, both internal and external, through systems that just work.

As a member of the fincrime operations team, you’ll be shaping and delivering exceptional customer onboarding systems and controls. You'll be helping us build and run a truly resilient bank that centres around bringing value to our customers.

Who are you

The ideal candidate for this job will have most of the following:

  • Demonstrable experience in onboarding operations in a bank or other regulated financial organisation (A working knowledge of platform banking is highly desirable)

  • Strong communicator (written and verbal) who manages customer expectations clearly and with a sense of urgency to get things done

  • Empathy and a strong desire to ensure genuine, compassionate support for our customers

  • Good judgement, you strike a good balance between experimentation and tried-and-tested solutions

We’re hybrid-remote, and most of your colleagues will not share an office with you on a day-to-day basis. This means you should also have:

  • A high degree of comfort adopting new software tools for document drafting, collaboration and communication.

  • A love of writing, we have a major amount of written documentation that you will be contributing to, and we place a high degree of importance on clarity and readability (you can find out more here about how we write)

What will you be doing here?

You will report to the Head of Fincrime Operations and work closely with the broader operations teams to ensure that our customers are onboarded without a hitch. We believe passionately in eliminating unnecessary manual effort. You will be encouraged and supported to automate any process where human intervention does not give a better result.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading the team that helps new customers get started, making sure they onboard and pass verification checks quickly, while following Griffin's rules to prevent financial crime

  • Owning our Customer Risk Assessments from start to finish, ensuring we capture, analyse and manage risks

  • Working with our commercial and customer success teams, driving onboarding velocity, reporting progress and streamlining the customer experience

  • Proven ability to implement thoughtful automation, improve efficiency and reduce onboarding times, without compromising quality

  • Ensuring compliance with our regulatory reporting schedule and the production of accurate materials to meet those obligations

  • Embracing your explorer spirit, you will challenge the way we do business today and help to implement genuine improvements to our operations

We’re remote-first

We have a small London office in Moorgate, but we are comfortable hiring people to work from anywhere in the UK. About a third of the company is based within occasional commuting distance of London, the rest are full-time remote.
