Job SummaryThis role provides independent second-line oversight of financial risk, including financial models, key modeling assumptions, and financial outputs and reporting. The lead will ensure robust financial risk governance frameworks, support model validation through backtesting, performance assessments, and other evaluation methods, and assess alignment with regulatory expectations and the credit union’s defined risk appetite.

SCHEDULE

Hybrid work environment with a blend of in-office and remote flexibility. Expectation of 3 days in the office, based on business needs.

To be effective, an individual must be able to perform each job duty successfully.

  • Provide independent oversight and effective challenge of financial risk exposures, including interest rate risk, liquidity risk, and capital adequacy.
  • Review and challenge key assumptions, methodologies, and outputs in asset-liability management (ALM), capital planning, and liquidity forecasting models.
  • Participate in management and risk committees, offering objective insights and recommendations.
  • Monitor adherence to liquidity and interest rate risk appetites and escalate emerging risks.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies related to funding and capital structure.
  • Support the development of financial risk policies, limits, and controls.
  • Stay current on regulatory developments (e.g., NCUA, FFIEC, Basel III/IV) and assess their impact.
  • Contribute to enterprise risk management (ERM) by integrating financial risk insights into broader assessments.
  • As the program evolves, potentially manage financial risk analysts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field; advanced degree (MS, MBA, PhD) or certifications (CFA, FRM) preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in financial modeling and quantitative analysis within banking or financial services.
  • Strong understanding of bank or credit union financials, regulatory capital frameworks (Basel III/IV), liquidity standards (LCR, NSFR), and model risk management frameworks (e.g., SR 11-7)
  • Proven ability to lead, validate, or challenge financial models and risk assumptions in a second-line or oversight capacity.
  • Extensive experience with statistical modeling and scenario analysis
  • Expert knowledge of regulatory stress testing frameworks
  • Ability to translate complex quantitative insights into clear and simple communication
  • Familiarity with regulatory expectations (e.g., NCUA, FFIEC, Basel III/IV)
  • People leadership experience preferred

Knowledge & Skills

  • Expertise in Excel and financial modeling tools;
  • Experience developing hedging strategies using derivatives such as interest rate swaps, caps, floors, and futures.
  • Extensive knowledge of liquidity metrics (LCR, NSFR) and contingency funding planning
  • Leadership experience with the ability to articulate a vision, engage stakeholders across the organization, and drive execution toward strategic goals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong presentation skillset, with the ability to communicate complex topics to diverse audiences
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Assists with priority projects and provides for a review and recommendation on current processes and technologies that facilitate operational efficiencies
