General Summary:
The Senior Manager, FP&A is a key member of Vertex’s Finance Business Partnering organization, providing financial leadership and strategic support to the U.S. Kidney team. As Vertex advances toward commercialization of its Kidney portfolio, this role will help shape and deliver near-term and long-term financial goals.
This position will play a critical role in supporting pre-launch and post-launch resource allocation in the U.S., a priority market for the Kidney portfolio. The Senior Manager will partner across Finance, Marketing, Sales, Patient Support, Market Access, and other supporting functions to deliver actionable insights, inform decision-making, and help define the key performance indicators that support business performance and patient access.
This role will help drive our annual budget process and will partner closely with functional teams to drive the financial performance management process for responsible functions (objective setting, budget vs. actuals, etc.), including the monthly forecast process, with a focus on influencing business operations and decisions through an understanding of the key drivers of short term performance and communicating the range of possible outcomes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide financial leadership and strategic guidance to functional leaders supporting the U.S. Kidney business.
- Drives the financial performance management process for responsible functions (objective setting, budget vs. actuals, etc.), including the monthly forecast process, with a focus on influencing business operations and decisions through an understanding of the key drivers of short term performance and communicating the range of possible outcomes.
- Drives the financial planning process for responsible functions (budget, forecast, long range plan) to provide insightful and influential forward looking direction, to develop key scenarios, and to identify key risks/uncertainties and plans for potential mitigation.
- Works closely with other members of the CFO organization including to maintain a continuous improvement mindset and promote strong communication, sharing of best practices and efficient processes.
- Identifies and help drive opportunities to improve process across the global finance organization.
- Ensure financial integrity, sound governance, and compliance across all areas of responsibility.
- Help define and monitor business KPIs that support strategic decision-making and identify opportunities to expand patient access in the U.S.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including finance business partnering with senior or executive leaders.
- Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex business issues and investment decisions.
- Experience with portfolio analysis, valuation, ROI/ROIC assessment, forecasting, and broader commercial finance support.
- Strong communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across senior leadership, Finance, and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to lead through change in a dynamic business environment involving complex processes, multiple stakeholders, and tight timelines.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a cross-functional, matrixed, and global organization.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial systems, including Hyperion.
- Broad understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and the ability to address business challenges across functions.
- Demonstrated leadership capability to build, lead, or develop high-performing business partnerships and teams.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting.
- Typically requires 8 years of relevant financial experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A track record of success working in a team-based environment.

Pay Range:
$134,400 - $201,600Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
