Finance is switching to a future-ready operating model, and the Financial Modelling Specialist role is focussed on stepping up our modelling capability in a big way. We’re building deep in‑house expertise to support high‑impact investment decisions, strategic planning, and our transition to a more centralised, best‑practice modelling environment.
Job DescriptionTe Whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
This is a senior, high‑impact role where you’ll take ownership of Contact’s most important financial models — from our company‑wide three‑statement corporate model, to major investment and scenario models, shaping decisions on renewable developments and supporting long-term planning and performance insights at an enterprise level.
You’ll lead the simplification and uplift of our modelling environment, streamlining processes into something far more efficient, robust, and confidence‑inspiring. You’ll work closely with investment analysis, planning and wholesale markets teams — becoming the go‑to technical expert for financial modelling best practice.

Ko wai koe | About You
You’re an experienced financial modeller — someone who thrives in complexity, loves digging into the mechanics of a model, and enjoys making things simpler, cleaner, and better. You’ve likely worked in corporate finance, investment analysis, a Big 4 transaction team, an investment bank, or a similarly technical environment.
We’re ideally looking for:
- Advanced experience with 3‑statement models, DCF valuations, scenario modelling
- Deep Excel expertise and strong accounting knowledge
- Exposure to modern modelling/data tools: Python, R, Databricks
- Ability to guide, mentor and uplift modelling capability across the team
- Experience building or maintaining large corporate models
- Curiosity, attention to detail, and a continual improvement mindset
- Comfort working with ambiguity and navigating complex legacy models
Bonus points for:
- CFA qualification (or working towards)
- Experience in the energy sector or another complex operational environment
- Previous exposure to or understanding of business forecasting processes
