The Financial Crime Risk and Controls team play a critical role in enabling Bankwest to meet its Financial Crime obligations. We ensure new and changing processes are appropriately assessed, risks are understood, and effective controls are designed and embedded to mitigate financial crime risk.

This role is pivotal in strengthening our financial crime risk management capability through data-driven insights, strong control over technical changes, and supporting internal change initiatives.

You will help ensure changes are delivered within the financial crime framework, with clear visibility of upstream and downstream impacts.

Do work that matters

Reporting to the Senior Manager Financial Crime Risk, you will be part of the team that supports the consistent application of FC risk framework within Bankwest and assist in the prioritisation and remediation of risk related issues with a focus on Financial Crime Technology systems and processes.

  • Partner closely with Financial Crime Technology to investigate BW data and change incidents, assess impacts and support implementation of agreed next steps and remediation actions.

  • Maintain strong awareness of key technology platforms (e.g. Omnia, Commbank.data, CLM, CCM, CMDM) to provide visibility and insight into technology delivery and how system changes impact Bankwest.

  • Conduct data transformation and lineage analysis, including upstream and downstream impact assessments across systems and processes.

  • Support improved understanding and management of critical data elements (CDEs), including data quality root cause analysis of incidents and drafting clear requirements for remediation.

  • Drive continuous improvement of the control environment by leveraging data to generate insights, metrics and reporting for senior leaders and governance forums.

  • Proactively identify and manage financial crime risks and issues, collaborating with business and technology teams to achieve sustainable outcomes.

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Strong experience in data management and analysis, including understanding data transformation, lineage and upstream/downstream impacts.

  • Experience in a technical or data-focused role, with proficiency in SQL and comfort working with complex data sets. (highly regarded)

  • Experience in operational risk management and compliance, ideally within banking, financial services or law enforcement. (highly regarded)

  • Knowledge of financial crime risk management frameworks and exposure to AML/CTF, Sanctions and Anti‑Bribery & Corruption (desired, not required).

  • Sound stakeholder management and change delivery skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and communicate effectively at all levels.

Skills Required
