Interim Financial Controller (Maternity Cover)
12 month fixed term, starting in January 2026
Purpose - We are seeking an experienced Interim Financial Controller to support the Finance team to cover a period of maternity leave. This role is based in Harrogate with the flexibility of hybrid working, offering a balance between remote work and office work within our brand new head office.
This is a pivotal role, responsible for overseeing the finance function, maintaining robust financial controls, and ensuring accurate, timely reporting. The Interim Financial Controller will head up the day-to-day operations of the NaughtOne finance team. The individual will be responsible for leading the finance team in performing month-end tasks, managing and coordinating monthly reporting, budgeting, and the reforecast process. They will also oversee a team of 4 while maintaining key relationships with the leadership team and other key stakeholders.
The Financial Controller will help monitor cashflow and payments, liaise with the wider organisation, and play a key role in ensuring compliance with internal and external reporting standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of leading and developing small teams and will support ad hoc projects arising from the wider business. While experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred, it’s not required. What’s most important is your ability to communicate clearly, meet deadlines, and tackle challenges with a proactive and solution-focused approach. Sustainability is an integral pillar at NaughtOne. In your role as a member of the Finance team, you will assume a pivotal role, actively contributing to the incorporation of sustainability considerations into the financial decision-making processes undertaken by NaughtOne. These efforts will continue to strengthen our commitment to sustainability and contribute to the development of NaughtOne’s sustainability strategy.
Responsibilities / Key Deliverables
• Lead the financial reporting team and provide business operational support
• Oversee and manage the month-end close while adhering to global group timetables and requirements
• Ensure accurate and timely delivery of monthly financial information in line with US GAAP
• Ensure compliance with financial reporting and regulatory requirements across geographies and legal entities
• Liaise with external auditors to ensure local regulations are met as part of our year end statutory audit
• Oversee NaughtOne treasury and cashflow planning, maintaining strong relationships with local bankers
• Review monthly payroll, pensions, and associated requirements
• Ensure that statutory reporting is completed in an accurate and timely manner
• Collaborate with the US tax team and external advisers on tax planning, indirect taxation, and compliance matters
• Manage and develop NaughtOne finance team members, ensuring retention and growth of key talent while maximising their contribution to the business • Ensure corporate deadlines are achieved for annual plans and forecasts
• Partner with wider business units (R&D, product management, marketing, etc.) to provide financial and capital support
• Own the SOX compliance programme and business risk relationships in the region Core Competencies
• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Proven track record as a Financial Controller or similar senior finance leadership role
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and statutory reporting requirements
• Experience managing and developing finance teams
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner across all business functions
• Strong treasury, cashflow, and payroll oversight experience
• Demonstrated ability to manage compliance frameworks, including SOX
• Strong organisational and time management skills for success in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication skills paired with good problem-solving & analytical skills
• Experience in a manufacturing environment desirable
• A hands-on proactive, get things done attitude Dimension of the role Reporting to the Financial Director and based from the Head Office in Harrogate, the role holder will be part of an immediate team of 6.
This is a fixed term maternity cover opportunity for between 12-14 months.
We are able to support WFH for up to 2 days / week however onsite full-time training will be required for the first few months to ensure a smooth handover.
