About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Financial Controller to join our dynamic team in Kathmandu, Nepal. This is a unique and pivotal role for an experienced finance professional who is ready to build and scale a robust accounting function from the ground up for a fast-growing, venture-backed startup. The ideal candidate will be a meticulous operator and a trusted strategic partner to our leadership, ensuring our financial foundation is rock-solid as we transition from a Series A company to a Series C powerhouse.
The Opportunity:
This role is a rare chance to take ownership of a critical function and directly impact a company’s growth trajectory. You will not only manage day-to-day financial operations but also serve as a key figure in our strategic planning. As the company scales, your responsibilities will evolve dramatically: from a hands-on "builder" at the Series A stage to a supervisory "scaler" at Series B and finally, a "pre-IPO ready" function leader at Series C. You will professionalize our financial processes, implement best-in-class controls, and prepare our books for the scrutiny of institutional investors and, ultimately, a public offering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management & Reporting: Oversee all accounting activities, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Operational Excellence: Improve and streamline financial reporting speed and accuracy to enable quicker month-end closes. Develop and implement financial policies, internal controls, and guidelines to protect company assets and ensure data integrity.
- US GAAP & Compliance: Guarantee strict adherence to US GAAP, particularly in complex areas like ASC 606 revenue recognition for our subscription-based business model and the accounting for stock-based compensation and equity. Reconcile deferred revenue and manage our capitalization table with precision.
- Strategic Support: Assist in strategic financial planning, including long-term goal setting and budget management. Track key financial metrics like burn rate and cash runway to optimize our financial position and support data-driven decision-making.
- Audit & Due Diligence Readiness: Prepare and manage the annual audit process, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors. By the Series C stage, you will be responsible for formalizing internal controls and readying the company for continuous due diligence and potential IPO-level scrutiny.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and build out a high-performing finance team, ensuring their skills and knowledge evolve with the company's growth.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably with a high-growth technology startup.
- Deep expertise in US GAAP, with a proven track record of managing technical accounting challenges.
- Proficiency in modern accounting software and financial modeling tools, with experience implementing or migrating to scalable ERP systems.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership and other departments.
- CPA, CA or ACCA equivalent certification is highly preferred.
