Marathon Petroleum Co. is seeking a Financial Analyst to support the Commercial Credit team, reporting to the Global Risk and Operations Director. This role is responsible for managing a portfolio of supply and trading customers including financial review, credit analysis, monitoring counterparty exposure, and continuous review of customer risk, and overall macroeconomic environment. The position will help evaluate counterparties using financial and commercial information and contribute to team processes and reporting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Experienced professional, who applies a range of professional knowledge of processes, accounting, finance and risk/control theories, practices and procedures to perform their duties.

  • Identifies financial risks and collaborates on strategies to mitigate them. 

  • Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify solutions to Treasury process and technology related challenges. Identifies business process improvement opportunities and contributes to the development of best practices. 

  • Works independently, with guidance on complex situations while acting as a resource for financial analysts with less experience. 

  • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that can inform business decisions. 

  • Actively seeks and implements ways to enhance processes, systems, or automation to provide more time for in-depth analysis and commentary.

  • Develops strong relationships with key business partners. 

  • Monitors and/or develops KPIs to proactively identify and communicate financial and business risks to internal and external business partners.  

  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline required. 

  • Three (3) years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. 

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver actionable financial insights and support strategic decision-making is preferred.

SKILLS: 

  • Ability to maintain effective work relationships with all levels of colleagues 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong ability to resolve issues effectively and clearly convey decisions and thinking

  • Ability to distill complex information into succinct summary form

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 

*This position belongs to a job progression with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level.  Final position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
