The Financial Analysis Consultant will be a key member of the Claims Finance team, reporting directly to the Director of Claims Finance. This role serves as the primary finance partner for Claims Solutions and other Claims support organizations, providing financial planning, forecasting, expense management, strategic analysis, and decision support to business leaders.
The successful candidate will develop deep partnerships across Claims leadership, Workforce Management, and Finance to provide actionable insights on expenses, staffing, operational performance, and business initiatives. This position offers significant exposure to senior leaders and the opportunity to influence strategic business decisions through financial analysis and operational insights.
* This position will be Hybrid in our Hartford, CT (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday in office).
Responsibilities include:
Serve as the primary Finance partner supporting Claims Solutions and other assigned Claims organizations, providing financial guidance and strategic decision support.
Lead monthly reporting, forecasting, outlooks, annual planning, and variance analysis for assigned business areas
Prepare executive-level financial exhibits, Monthly Business Review (MBR) materials, presentations, and management reporting for Claims and Finance leadership
Perform monthly financial analysis and maintain a regular cadence with business partners to communicate key insights, emerging trends, risks, and opportunities
Perform monthly reporting and financial analysis for Unallocated and Allocated Loss Adjustment Expenses (ULAE and ALAE) as well as Claim Volume and Volume driver analysis
Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of expenses, including allocations, accruals, reserve-related expenses, and other financial transactions
Partner with Workforce Management and operational leaders to analyze staffing trends, productivity metrics, workload forecasts, and organizational needs
Develop operational and financial analyses that connect business performance drivers - including staffing, utilization, claim volumes, referrals, vendor spend, and cost-per-claim metrics to financial results
Support process improvement, automation, and reporting enhancement initiatives to improve efficiency and strengthen decision support capabilities
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field preferred.
5+ years of experience in Finance, FP&A, Accounting, Business Analytics, or a related discipline.
Strong financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and analytical skills.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; experience with TM1, Tableau, Power BI, or similar analytical tools preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present financial information and business insights to various levels of management.
Proven ability to build partnerships and influence business decisions through data-driven analysis.
Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated problem-solving mindset and ability to identify opportunities to improve processes and reporting.
Insurance industry or operational finance experience preferred.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
