Role Purpose
The Financial Accountant is a key role within the Finance team, responsible for supporting the accurate and timely reporting of financial information, safeguarding the control environment, and providing the analysis and insight that underpins financial decision-making across the business. Working closely with the Finance Manager and department heads, the role combines core financial accounting and compliance responsibilities with genuine business partnering, cost control, and process improvement. It offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, commercially driven environment and to contribute to the ongoing development of the finance function's systems, reporting, and automation agenda.
Key Responsibilities:
Governance & Control
- Maintain audit-ready balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, provisions, and key financial controls
- Escalate control gaps or risks promptly and support corrective actions and the risk register
Audit, Tax & Compliance
- Lead the year-end and interim audit process
- Ensure accuracy of tax submissions (VAT, SSD, Excise Duty, DRS, PAYE/BIK, Intrastat)
- Liaise with the Revenue Commissioners and lead any legislative or tax queries
Cost Control & Supplier Negotiation
- Monitor and challenge overhead spend against Budget, highlighting savings opportunities
- Support tender and renewal processes for key back-office categories (IT, insurance, utilities, car fleet, professional services)
- Prepare cost comparisons, assist supplier negotiations, and track delivered savings
- Maintain a register of key contracts and renewal dates
Financial Reporting, Analysis & Business Partnering
- Assist in preparing monthly management accounts and overhead variance analysis (vs Budget and Prior Year)
- Act as a key point of contact for financial queries, supporting non-finance stakeholders with data and insight
- Produce ad hoc reports and financial modelling to support business initiatives
Systems & Process Development
- Identify and implement process improvements, and support the standardisation and automation of reporting tools
Key Skills & Experience
- Professionally qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
- Strong experience in financial analysis
- Experience with indirect taxes and regulatory reporting (desirable)
- Experience managing or mentoring junior staff (desirable)
- Advanced Excel skills exposure to Power BI
- Strong systems awareness and interest in process improvement
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
- Experience working in a fast-paced commercial environment (desirable)
Skills Required

Founded by Barry Connolly in 1992 Richmond Marketing has introduced exciting and innovative brands to the Irish market place. Working at Richmond. The way it works. Our business is divided into three areas: Sales, Marketing and Finance. It doesn't matter what team you are in or what level you are, we all work together to get the job done.. We have about 70 people in our sales team. They are responsible for all our customers, from the major supermarkets and cash and carries to pubs, restaurants and nightclubs. They are supported by national account managers who help the sales team deliver their business objectives whilst helping the major retailers deliver theirs. In Marketing we have over 20 people. We have Marketing Managers, Brand Managers, Trade Marketing Managers and staff to support them and help make things happen. Our Finance area has 30 people. Not just the accountants but also our administrators, Customer Service team, Logistics team and IT support team. We are committed to supporting the development of talent within our business.
