The Toll Global Finance Operations is a centralised function providing General Accounting, Credit Management accounting issues and is business unit centred. The objectives of the Finance team are capability orientated to achieve effective decision making, to be easily understood by the customer and to be adaptable for ongoing continuous improvement.

Financial Accountant – Melbourne - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract (opportunities for extension/permanency)

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Finance Business Partner, we are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Global Finance Operations division based in Melbourne. The Toll Global Logistics Finance Services (GSS) is a centralised shared services function providing General Accounting, Credit Management and Accounts Payable services to Toll Group businesses. This team is focused on providing financial support for general accounting processes and reporting for the business.

The objectives of the Global Logistic FS Centre are to provide general accounting support which aligns the Division to one standard global process for Toll. This will remove the effort associated with repeatable high-volume processes out of the business into a FS centre, where better practice can be further developed and aligned. The Global Logistic FS centre is productivity and service orientated to achieve effective decision making, and to be adaptable to support ongoing continuous improvement.

As the Financial Accountant, you will:

  • Prepare and complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations (e.g. provisions, intercompany, intersystem/ERP, tax, GRIR, FX).

  • Analyse and resolve open items in a timely manner, providing insights and commentary to business unit managers to support resolution and variance explanation.

  • Perform trial balance reviews and ensure the accuracy of financial data across general ledger and sub-ledgers.

  • Process month-end journals and support timely and accurate financial close activities.

  • Maintain and administer the Global account reconciliation system, including mapping update, metadata configuration, and coordination of system enhancements and issue resolution.

  • Support reconciliation improvement initiatives, working closely with project teams to ensure successful system implementation, testing, user training and standardisation of reconciliation processes across each division.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 2+ years of practical accounting experience.

  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel, mandatory.

  • Industry or Shared Services experience an advantage.

  • Professional Qualification (part qualified) or qualified by experience.

  • Good Financial Accounting track-record & reconciliation.

  • Experience with general ledger accounting processes and ERP system.

  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Work well in a team environment.

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Skills Required

  • At least 2 years of practical accounting experience
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills
  • Professional qualification, part qualified, or qualified by experience
  • Strong financial accounting and reconciliation experience
  • Experience with general ledger accounting processes and ERP systems
  • Ability to build and maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Industry or shared services experience
  • Entitlement to work in Australia
  • Willingness to undertake criminal history and medical pre-employment checks
