In this role, you will play a pivotal role in the review and assessment of Spotify's most complex technical accounting matters. You’ll assist business partners make informed decisions around key commercial matters, including revenue partnerships, advertising revenue and premium products while maintaining accounting compliance. Success involves working with a diverse and cross-functional team, domestically and internationally and delivering on strategic decisions and improvements within the finance organization to effectively help prepare Spotify for its continued future growth, both organically and through acquisitions. What you'll do:

  • Analyze accounting and financial reporting considerations for complex accounting topics including, but not limited to revenue recognition, leasing, stock-based compensation, financial instruments and business combinations
  • Collaborate throughout the deal cycle with key business partners across the business including FP&A, Legal, Licensing, R&D, Operations and Internal Audit, as part of the operational and technical implementation of new agreements or transactions
  • Ensure new processes and policies are designed to allow for accurate financial reporting while still unlocking our business partners commercial goals
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure complex arrangements and new products are properly and efficiently implemented
  • Assist in ensuring the appropriate accounting conclusions are reached for transactions impacting our SEC filings including the Company’s consolidated and statutory financial statements
  • Assist with the timely preparation and review of financial information filed with the SEC, including Forms 20-F and 6-K
  • Where needed collaborate with other technical accounting team members on content licensing and podcast arrangements, debt and equity transactions, leasing, potential merger and acquisitions, segment reporting, and other complex transactions

Who you are:

  • A minimum of 6+ years of experience in public accounting working with SEC registered companies
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and be an actively licensed CPA
  • Experience with growth companies in high technology, music or entertainment industries
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS or US GAAP and SEC reporting and ability to apply extensive know-how of technical accounting and financial reporting standards
  • Experience should include advanced accounting concepts such as revenue recognition, business combinations and stock-based compensation
  • Ability to research technical accounting matters and prepare well-written memorandums and presentations articulating these matters to both well versed accountants and non-finance stakeholders
  • Brings a detail-oriented and hands-on style and the ability to prioritize and deliver results in a fast moving company with a wide variety of strategic initiatives
  • Experience with reviewing complex legal contracts and evaluating business and accounting implications
  • Have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
