Role description and opportunities:

This position is primarily supporting the BNY Mellon Asset Servicing line of business (LOB), the Bank's largest business generating $4. 8 B in annual revenue. Support for t he larger revenue recognition accounting team will include responsib ilities for the Bank's Investment Services segment across multiple other LOB's generating $8B in annual revenue. This position includes accounting analysis, reconciliation, and revenue accrual journal entry responsibilities; however, most of the work is centered around analyzing client contracts and fee schedules, supporting system development projects, and providing technical accounting support to our business partners. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to interact with LOB Relationship Management globally, Operations, Risk, and other Business Partners groups. The successful candidate will have opportunities to engage in long-term billing system and other ad-hoc projects, ensuring the integrity of revenue recognition rules is maintained within the source system creation/enhancement process , as well as to support the Bank's IMMS cash management system .

Key responsibilities include the following:

This role contributes to the accounting, finance, and control functions, and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Completing core accounting activities such as originating and processing complex general ledger (G/L) transactions; performing intra-month and month-end accounting close processes; participating in G/L and ICFR/SOX control audits; maintaining control procedures; fulfilling ad hoc requests in accordance with accounting process standards; and identifying and completing continuous process improvements.
  • Performing reconciliations of revenue related transactions between billing system data and G/L accounts or other financial data as necessary, and identifying, addressing and/or escalating issues, as needed. Supporting end to end accounting processes and completing research required to transform data into information for reporting purposes.
  • Researching and understanding the various LOB source systems and sub-ledger reports, including how systems and their related reports function and reconcile to the G/L. Understanding potential accounting improvement opportunities within these systems and working to proactively propose and implement changes. Where source system reports are not available, investigate and support efforts to create such reports.
  • Engaging in billing system development and implementation projects, supporting the development of functional specifications and system design, and participating in User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Reviewing and understanding client contracts/fee schedules as necessary to evaluate the need for manual adjustment of systemically generated revenue accruals, including working with Relationship Managers to accomplish these objectives. Proactively elevating issues identified to Finance and LOB partners and proposing solutions to potential issues.
  • Supporting business, audit, SOX, Technical Accounting, and Finance partners to identify and aggregate accounting questions and research requests
  • Completing various training objectives to understand end to end business processes with accounting impacts and aggregate process flow to enhance knowledge base of the Asset Servicing line of business.
  • Engaging with the Bank's IMMS cash management system, understanding its core functional processes and its impact on Bank revenue generation.
  • The person in this position is an individual contributor; there are no direct reports.

Required education, knowledge and experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required. Accounting concentration preferred .
  • 3-5 years of total work experience preferred.

Desirable education, knowledge and experience

  • MBA or CPA/CA/local area equivalent certification
  • Knowledge of GAAP and accounting and finance concepts and analysis techniques, with special focus on revenue recognition rules under ASC 606
  • Experience working with billing systems and accounts receivable
  • Strong data analysis, spreadsheet and technical skills
