Job Overview
The Director of Accounting will manage the team that handles the day-to-day accounting functions including monthly close. This role will be responsible for general accounting and reporting, administration, and financial controls. This role reports directly to Controller.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage accounting close process ensuring timeliness and accuracy of results
- Ensure proper classification and recording of expenses and other day to day accounting items
- Communicate with the financial planning and analysis team monthly results and day to day items that arise during the month that will impact the rolling forecast
- Prepare monthly balance sheet and income statement flux analysis for month on month reporting or actual to budget analysis
- Manage month-end close meetings within controllership group and with financial planning and analysis providing a high-level overview of month-end results for expenses
- Lead payroll, benefits, and accounts payable functions
- Oversee corporate bank account, treasury, and money transfer license reconciliations and postings of related journal entries
- Support in the preparation of the quarterly and annual filings with the SEC, including filings on 10-K or 10-Q
- Train, develop, and grow the accounting team members' skills
- Review monthly analysis, reconciliations, and journal entries prepared by the accounting team
- The administrator of FloQast, Net Suite, monthly accounting close checklist and reconciliation software Administrator of travel expense management system (Concur) and corporate credit cards
- Prepare analysis schedules as needed and upon request
- Assess impacts of accounting process changes to day to day accounting and implement new processes/monthly tasks as needed
- Assist in the implementation of SOX 404 (walkthroughs, internal controls, etc.)
- Support Controller on special projects, process automation initiatives, and audit
- Research accounting g/l information requests/questions from other departments
Required Experience, Qualifications, and Skills
- A minimum of 10 years of accounting experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- CPA Certification
- Minimum of 7 years of people management
- Inquisitive nature about how transactions affect the financial statements
- Understanding of GAAP, financial statement relationships, and external financial reporting
- Understanding of complex accounting areas
- Ability to interpret and apply U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements for publicly traded companies
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills necessary
- Strong computer skills, including intermediate to advanced Excel
- Ability to develop effective working relationships across the organization
- Accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
