JOB SUMMARY:

This is a critical position within Westchester Specialty Group's Finance team, responsible for all aspects of Financial Reporting and Analysis for two of Westchester's business units. This also includes annual planning and quarterly forecasting of P&L results, as well as weekly forecasting of premium production for the assigned products and businesses.

This role will have direct responsibility for measuring financial performance results for the given businesses, as well as identifying and explaining any emerging trends that impact the ability to achieve targeted results. Critical factors for success include delivering results while maintaining a detailed focus, ability to take ownership and meet deadlines, being a self-motivated team player coupled with the ability to work independently, identifying issues and developing sound recommendations for remediation, developing broad relationships, a willingness and desire to continuously build on insurance and product knowledge, and the ability to thrive in fast paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a team of 2 people.
  • Produce weekly updates to premium production forecasts based on emerging trends and information gathered from business leaders
  • Complete quarterly forecasts and quarterly close financial results analysis for the full P&L for assigned products and businesses, including Premium, Reinsurance, Commissions, and Expenses
  • Deliver monthly and quarterly reporting and results analysis for premium production and premium related production metrics
  • Build annual plan and complete the annual update of the 5-year Strategic Plan based on information gathered from business leaders
  • Create insightful management reports in order to present results clearly on a timely basis, allowing business leaders to make informed decisions
  • Ensure accuracy and transparency of data at a detailed level
  • Maintain and improve data element mappings and modeling calculations
  • Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency and overall improvement
  • Liaise with IT, Analytics, Underwriting, Operations, and Actuarial to resolve issues and improve data quality



Qualifications

Technical Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting/Finance/Business or other related fields of study
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • 8 years of relevant experience with a large public company in an accounting or financial analysis role, or experience with a large or Big 4 firm in an auditing role
  • Insurance industry experience preferred, with in-depth knowledge of Insurance Financials
  • Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make solid recommendations
  • Ability to understand relationships and interactions between financial data and business results
  • Proficiency in end-user applications (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Experience with TM1 and with cubes and relation-based databases (Hyperion, Cognos, Essbase, Access, SQL, SAS)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present information in differing degrees of detail and form depending on the audience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization, while building positive relationships
  • Experience with Property and Casualty Reinsurance
  • Must demonstrate an orientation to results
