Job purpose

Manages aspects of the company's accounting functions, including the establishment and maintenance of accounting principles, practices, procedures, and initiatives. Prepares financial reports and presents findings and recommendations to management. Responsible for internal and external reporting and acts a point of contact for other departments within the company, including the parent company, outside government agencies (tax, etc.), and outside professional service organizations (accounting, tax, banking, legal, insurance, etc.)

Duties and responsibilities

  • Directly supervises employees in the Accounting department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Develop systems and processes to ensure the accuracy and completeness of all company accounting books and records.
  • Develop internal accounting controls, procedures and policies to ensure accuracy of information provided by all departments.
  • Analyze current procedures; recommend changes for continual improvement of departmental efficiency and effectiveness
  • Develop annual spending budgets and quarterly spending forecasts for the administrative department.
  • Coordinate communication with all relevant tax authorities.
  • Coordinate audit activity with parent company and outside auditors; quarterly and year-end.
  • Establish processes to gather and monitor critical financial information necessary for management to make informed decisions.
  • Special projects as designated by VP Finance, Chief Financial Officer or President
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with a portion of it being in a supervisory role.
  • Cost accounting experience preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results.
  • Knowledge of employee relationship building and performance management techniques.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with other financial systems.

Working conditions

This position is generally performed in a typical office environment that is usually quiet. Employee is expected to work collaboratively with team members, as well as able to work independently with limited supervision. Work will require significant computer and telephone work.

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Supervisory responsibility

Directly supervises the Finance and Payroll personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
