About Opendoor
At Opendoor our mission is to tilt the world in favor of homeowners and those who aim to become one. Homeownership matters. It's how people build wealth, stability, and community. It's how families put down roots, how neighborhoods strengthen, how the future gets built. We're building the modern system of homeownership giving people the freedom to buy and sell on their own terms. We’ve built an end-to-end online experience that has already helped thousands of people and we’re just getting started.
About the role
Opendoor is looking for a Finance Systems & Automation Specialist to build useful AI automations that simplify Accounting operations, reduce repetitive work, and help the team close the books faster.
You’ll work directly with Accounting teammates to uncover manual processes, prioritize improvements, and build AI agents, reusable skills, and automated workflows that people actually use. You’ll own improvements from discovery through testing, rollout, adoption, and ongoing support across systems including NetSuite, Ramp, Numeric, Snowflake, and GitHub.
This role prioritizes practical AI building and systems thinking. You should be able to explain something you deployed in a business environment, how you checked its outputs, and what you improved after launch. Specialized accounting knowledge and experience with our specific platforms are not required; curiosity and a willingness to learn unfamiliar systems and business processes are essential.
What you'll do
- Work with Accounting teammates to identify manual steps, bottlenecks, and duplicate work, including opportunities that have not been raised as formal requests.
- Prioritize automation opportunities based on business value, effort, and potential improvements in accuracy and reliability.
- Build and maintain AI agents, reusable skills, and workflows for recurring Accounting tasks.
- Create automations supporting journal-entry preparation, data validation, exception identification, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Design connected workflows and improve data movement between systems using appropriate integrations, APIs, scripts, or automation tools.
- Test solutions, evaluate AI outputs, and build clear exception handling and appropriate human review into workflows.
- Partner with Accounting, IT, and system owners to validate changes and obtain required approvals before release.
- Document solutions, help teammates adopt them, and support ongoing use and improvement.
- Measure results through time saved, fewer manual steps, accuracy, and reliability.
- Support administration and troubleshooting of Accounting systems as needed.
What you'll need
- Demonstrated experience building and deploying useful AI agents, reusable skills, or automations in a business environment, with clear examples of their personal contribution.
- Practical understanding of AI workflow design, tool use, and output evaluation—including examples of mistakes they caught and corrected.
- Systems thinking: the ability to explain how data and software components connect, anticipate failure points, and design workflows that can expand without becoming brittle or isolated.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn unfamiliar processes and carry an improvement from discovery through adoption and ongoing support.
- Clear communication and effective cross-functional collaboration, including explaining tradeoffs and asking for help or review when needed.
Bonus points
- Experience with NetSuite, Ramp, Numeric, Rippling, or other business systems.
- Exposure to finance or accounting processes, ERP integrations, sensitive business data, or audit requirements.
- Hands-on experience with APIs, integration platforms, SQL, Python, or JavaScript. Specific tools and languages can be learned in the role.
- Experience with advanced AI frameworks, context engineering, or monitoring deployed workflows at scale.
Location
This role is based in one of our offices, in-person four days per week. We're looking for candidates who are enthusiastic about an in-office culture; people who want to build alongside their teammates, not from a distance.
