The Finance Risk Analyst will support the Segment Risk Manager responsible for Finance and Regulatory Reporting Oversight (“FRRO”) Analytics. The FRRO team is responsible for performing effective review and challenge activities, primarily related to capital management, planning and forecasting, capital interpretations, capital calculations, Resolution Planning and FED and FDIC regulatory reporting. The Finance Risk Analyst will work closely with M&T’s Capital Planning team along with other stakeholders across the Finance and Risk functions of the bank in support of the ongoing evaluation of M&T’s capital adequacy and governance. The candidate will develop and enhance analytical tools to support the review and challenge of capital adequacy and will support the function’s evaluation of conformance with existing and proposed capital regulations. In addition, the role may support the independent review and challenge of other components of financial reporting, including the Allowance for Credit Loss (ACL) process, and support ad hoc projects on an ongoing basis.
Primary Responsibilities:- Support the performance of effective independent review and challenge activities across a wide scope of capital planning, monitoring and governance activities.
- Collaborate across functions in the compilation and analysis of financial and capital projections both on a business-as-usual (BAU) basis and in connection with stress testing exercises, with a focus on Pre-Provision Net Revenue (PPNR), Credit Losses and Risk-Weighted Assets (RWA).
- Support the successful completion of projects to enhance the analytical capabilities of the FRRO function along with other strategic initiatives and targeted process improvements.
- Utilize analytical tools to conduct research and analysis of industry and peer bank data, provide insight on regulatory updates and best practices.
- Assist with regulatory exams, responses to regulatory requests, feedback and Internal Audit exams/reviews.
- Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
- Complete other related duties as assigned
The Finance Risk Analyst will interact with various lines of business and support areas, including Credit Risk, Model Risk Management, Finance, Treasury and Audit. The Finance Risk Analyst must be a self-starter with a willingness to take on any task within FRRO to further the department’s oversight role. The position has visibility from senior and executive members of the Risk Division. The incumbent must be willing to work independently as well as within a team environment and, at times, under tight deadlines with limited information.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelors degree and a minimum of 2 years related business line experience,
OR in lieu of a degree,
A combined minimum of 6 years higher education and/or work experience
BA with outstanding academic credentials. One to two years work experience, preferably in Banking or other financial services companies. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Superior interpersonal and leadership talent and ambition. Advanced analytical abilities.
