The Finance Operations and Compliance Specialist is the senior in-country finance representative responsible for managing Zambia’s local financial operations, including accounts payable, inventory and warranty controls, taxation, statutory compliance and locally assigned balance-sheet and profit-and-loss reconciliations.
The role acts as the primary finance business partner to the Zambia Managing Director and local leadership team. It ensures that financial transactions are appropriately supported, local regulatory obligations are met, physical assets are safeguarded and business decisions are supported by reliable financial information.
- Manage supplier invoices, staff claims, commissions and local expenditure, ensuring accurate documentation, budget checks, tax treatment and approvals.
- Prepare approved payment proposals for processing by the Financial and Management Accountant, maintaining segregation of duties.
- Resolve payment queries and reconcile supplier balances, staff advances and other payable accounts.
- Oversee financial controls for inventory across warehouses, service centers and other Zambia locations.
- Coordinate stock counts, reconcile inventory records and resolve discrepancies.
- Monitor obsolete, damaged and slow-moving stock, recommending provisions or write-offs.
- Oversee warranty claims, replacement units, spare-parts usage and related financial provisions.
- Ensure timely and accurate tax filings, reconciliations and compliance with Zambian tax regulations.
- Coordinate tax audits, manage compliance risks and liaise with tax advisers and regulatory authorities.
- Lead the preparation of annual statutory financial statements and coordinate external audits in accordance with IFRS and Group policies.
- Prepare and review reconciliations for accounts payable, inventory, taxes, warranty balances, staff advances and accruals.
- Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting, ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Review financial results, investigate material variances and ensure compliance with Group accounting policies.
- Serve as the primary in-country finance partner to the Zambia Managing Director and local leadership team.
- Provide financial guidance on expenditure, pricing, inventory, taxation and profitability.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and operational decision-making while identifying and escalating financial risks.
- Strengthen internal controls across accounts payable, inventory, tax and warranty processes.
- Ensure accurate financial records, proper approvals and compliance with company policies.
- Drive process improvements, automation and effective use of financial systems.
- Coordinate the resolution of internal and external audit findings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- CPA, ACCA, CIMA, ZICA or an equivalent professional qualification.
- At least five years of relevant finance experience, including responsibility for taxation, statutory reporting, accounts payable, inventory controls and financial reconciliations.
- Experience in a multinational, renewable-energy, FMCG, technology, manufacturing or distribution environment is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of Zambia tax regulations, statutory reporting requirements and IFRS.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating statutory or tax audits and working with external advisers and authorities.
- Practical experience with ERP and inventory-management systems.
