About the Opportunity
Driscoll’s is the leading supplier of fresh berries in the world. One of the critical operational functions at Driscoll’s is the Nursery, which propagates and delivers millions of plants per year to our independent growers. For Driscoll’s to be successful, the Nursery needs to propagate high quality plants, deliver them on time to our growers, and do so cost-effectively.
The Driscoll’s of the Americas (DOTA) Nursery Finance team manages the financial operations for this critical part of the business. This role will play a crucial part in supporting the US Nursery operation. The Manager will perform complex financial duties, requiring professional experience and strong financial acumen. Responsibilities include leading the development of the annual operating spending budget, tracking and reporting monthly spending to leadership, maintaining unit costs on key plant types, and performing financial analysis on critical investments and strategic decisions.
The Manager is expected to partner closely with US Nursery Leadership Team members to drive improvements to critical operational and financial metrics. Two specific areas of focus include 1) strengthening the cost reporting framework and 2) increasing the scope and quality of financial analysis that supports vital Nursery decisions.
Responsibilities
Annual Operating Plan (AOP):
• Leads the development of operating spending budgets
• Develops unit cost forecasts for different plant types
• Assists in building long-range Capital plans for specific sites
Operating Spend Management:
• Responsible for analyzing monthly operating spends
• Performs Budget vs Actuals analysis for leadership
• Conducts monthly operating spend reviews with key operating partners
Monthly Close & Management Reporting:
• Participates in Driscoll’s monthly Financial Close process
• Helps prepare the monthly Nursery Financial Reporting Package
• Presents financial results to key operating partners
Unit Cost Management:
• Responsible for managing Nursery plant unit costs
• Partners with Nursery operations and Accounting to collect data
• Maintains unit cost models and reports to leadership periodically
Strategic Support:
• Critical thought partner to US Nursery operational leaders
• Supports the development and evaluation of strategic initiatives
• Assists with developing strategic presentations for leadership reviews
Capital & Investments:
• Provides financial/ROI analysis as needed for investments
• Assists with developing investment request presentations for leadership
General Other Responsibilities:
• Special projects and ad-hoc analysis as required by leadership
• Represents Driscoll’s ethically and professionally in all interactions with co-workers, growers, vendors, governmental agencies, and customers of Driscoll’s. Ensures the confidentiality of all financial, proprietary, and confidential information.
Candidate Profile
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent – Required, MBA a plus but not required
• 5+ years of Finance experience, preferably with an agricultural, agri-business, or CPG company
• Forecasting/Planning experience (Annually/Quarterly)
• Management reporting and presenting
• Cost accounting experience
• Strategic analysis (NPV/ROI)
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Detail-oriented with strong attention to accuracy and precision
• Ability to proactively drive tasks to completion on time
• Ability to collaborate and interact effectively with management and various functional work groups across multiple geographies
• Valid Passport required
• Domestic and international travel required up to 15%
• Experience with Nursery or Agriculture a plus
• Cost/inventory ERP implementation a plus
• Microsoft Office - Advanced
• Oracle ERP experience a plus
• Tableau, Power BI, or experience with similar a plus
• Spanish language skills a plus
Compensation & Benefits:
The following information is provided in good faith as a general description of the salary range and benefits for the position posted. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate is dependent upon experience, skills, education, work location, internal pay equity, and other objective job-related factors.
Salary Range estimated for the Finance Manager, US Nursery: $104,000 to $134,000 USD.
